Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two is just around the corner with fans have high expectations for the new movie. With the first part captivating audiences across the globe with its complex yet intriguing storylines, the second installment is set to continue the events following the central character, Paul Atreides. Given that the new movie is already receiving a positive response ahead of its release, the film director recently shared his insights regarding the third installment.
From his recent interview, it seems pretty clear that he is avoiding a specific mistake that has severely affected the popular Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Denis Villeneuve Will Not Rush With Dune 3!
With Dune: Part Two concluding the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1965 classic sci-fi novel of the same name, director Denis Villeneuve has already planned to continue Timothée Chalamet‘s Paul Atreides journey. With its third installment, Dune Messiah already being written, he is going to take his time with the new story.
As Hollywood’s current wave of making sequels is comprising the quality of a project, he expressed his views on delivering the best craft possible to audiences. Emphasizing how release dates for a project tend to question its quality, he would rather keep vague plans for the third installment.
In an interview with The Times of London, he shared,
“There is absolutely a desire to have a third one, but I don’t want to rush it. The danger in Hollywood is that people get excited and only think about release dates, not quality.”
Even the Internet agreed with his nuance as many took to X to showcase their support for the director as they praised him for choosing quality over quantity!
Yeah, quality is the most important aspect of a movie/series.

The most true statement I heard from a director in a long time ! This man is on the same track as Nolan, Scorsese, Matt Reeves, Quentin Tarantino ect.

While Dune 3 is still in early development, Villeneuve’s words have clarified one thing: he prioritizes serving quality content to viewers over risking his sci-fi universe with low-quality sequels. Though he used a general term without specifying the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the superhero franchise has surely faced a major blow with the failure of its sequels.
Denis Villeneuve Will Avoid MCU’s Mistake!
Unlike Villeneuve, MCU has continued to follow its sequel strategy which has proved to be an utter disaster for the franchise. After the universe garnered immense praise for the Iron Man series, Marvel Studios started to bring out solo projects of MCU characters. While some movies managed to become box-office success, they touched rock-bottom post-Avengers: Endgame era.
However, instead of improvising on the storylines, the franchise continued to bring new stories and sequels, leading to audiences’ lack of interest. Its last project, The Marvels is a prime example of why the studio was unable to re-establish its invincible presence in the market. Serving as a sequel to Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel (2019), it failed to connect with audiences.
In addition to that, its poor scripting, underwhelming performance of actors and poorly written characters further contributed to its failure. Villeneuve has already impressed many with his filmmaking ideology with commentators calling out Marvel to learn a thing or two from him. Check out the tweets here.
Take note Disney… quality over quantity !

Kevin Feige should take notes from this and apply it to the MCU
— Matt (@Mattgelo93256) February 27, 2024
That's the right idea. Disney and DC Studios could learn a thing or two from him.

@MarvelStudios should think about this. They should 1 movie and 2 shows per year. Keep quantity limited and quality incredible.
Currently 2025 has 4 movies.
I believe if @Marvel does this it can get back its DIAMOND STATUS.

Whereas, the upcoming sci-fi movie will follow Paul Atreides’ journey as he embarks on a revenge journey against House Harkonnen. The movie features a star-studded cast including Zendaya, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, and Florence Pugh among others.
Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two hits theaters on March 1st.
