Desperate to Save His Acting Career, Will Smith Wants to Make Another Sequel In His $838 Million Bad Boys Franchise

At CinemaCon 2023 in Las Vegas, Sony Pictures presented the lead Bad Boys stars  Will Smith and Martin Lawrence via a recorded message from the set to the attendees of the event. In the video, the stars announced the fourth installment of the franchise.

Will Smith has not been involved in a project for the big screen for a while now. In 2022, Will Smith made his name in global headlines after slapping comedian and host, Chris Rock at the Oscar event following a joke Rock made directed to Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. Later, Smith apologized for his action to Rock.

The Announcement of Bad Boys 4 at CinemaCon 2023

It is evident that Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are coming back to the franchise. In the video, Smith addressed the attendees of the event first.

“What’s up CinemaCon? We’re glad we’re not there, ’cause we’re here and they’re paying us to be here!” Smith said jokingly.

Smith and Lawrence exited a black Porsche, the fans got to see a row of production trailers in the background. “The Bad Boys back in the building. We are on set and we are so sorry we couldn’t be there with you,” Smith added. While Smith was informing that they have just started shooting, the Bad Boy co-star appeared and interrupted saying that they are not sorry to miss the event,  “We had to be here, Will,” Lawrence said.

“We glad we not there, cuz we here and they paying us to be here, so we are happy that we here and not there,” Smith said in the video. Coming to the point, “Bad Boys 4 is coming. Back in the saddle. We hype, we excited,” he added. Smith also revealed that they are in their fourth week of filming.

The Bad Boy franchise has grossed over $838 million worldwide. The most recent and third installment of the series, Bad Boys for Life which was released in 2020 was a hit grossing over $426.5 million at the domestic US box office. Bad Boys for Life director duo, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are also coming back to direct the fourth installment of the franchise.

Recently, during his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, Lawrence told Entertainment Tonight about the film, “We got a lot of the team back from the last one. Big Willie’s doing his thing as always and so focused and, yeah, it has the chance to be the biggest one.”

As per reports, the film is in production, shooting on a location in Atlanta. The movie is yet to have an official title and a release date.

The Bad Boys Franchise

The movie franchise follows two lifelong friends and partner detectives Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) tailing crimes sometimes going off the book. A lot of action; gun blazing and blasts are involved in the series with added humor and funny jokes throughout. The first installment of Bad Boys, released in 1995 was directed by Michael Bay, his feature directorial debut. Eight years later, Bay brought back the action comedy Bad Boys II to the screen. The second installment grossed over $273 million worldwide against a budget of $130 million which is almost twice the gross of the original film. Again, 17 years later, Smith and Lawrence joined the third installment, this time with director duo, Bilall Fallah, and Adil El Arbi. After a tremendous box office collection, the makers have decided to go for the fourth installment. More about the movie is yet to be disclosed.
