It has been a dark period for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with its major releases floundering over the past few years. The trouble brewing at Marvel Studios has continued unabated for the past 4 years, with nothing coming off. In the midst of these tumultuous times, the news that Blade and Deadpool 3 will be R-rated was expected to raise their spirits, as they got what many of them had wanted for so long. But that doesn’t seem to be the case. It might be a case of ‘too little, too late’ according to some Marvel fans.
The rise (and fall) of the Marvel Cinematic Universe
The fact that the Marvel Cinematic Universe was destined for greatness was apparent from its inception. Over the course of the next ten years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe scaled unfathomable heights and went on to become the talk of the town.
Yet that high was not destined to last long. The new era in the franchise’s history would not be as bright as Kevin Feige would have wanted it to be. The culmination of the Infinity Saga marked the beginning of a new era for Marvel. An unforgettable one, that is.
Not every move has come off for Marvel Cinematic Universe
They made an entry into the streaming sector, new characters joined the squad, and a new villain was brought into the fold. Much to Kevin Feige’s dismay, these moves more often than not have failed to pay off. MCU’s sleuth of new shows have had a mixed track record.
The new characters have failed to replicate the same magic. To add to their troubles, its ratings have taken quite a tumble. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was expected to be a major movie in setting up the next phase of the MCU. But its dismal ratings of 46% on Rotten Tomatoes paints a picture of how sorry the overall situation is.
News of Blade and Deadpool 3 not enough to raise fan sentiment
In these dark moments, the news that Mahershala Ali’s Blade will receive an R-rating offered some much-needed relief to Marvel executives.
“They gave me the R, which is so important”

“We are going to have fun because Mahershala is such a deep actor. I’m excited to show a kind of ruthlessness, a roughness he has, that allows him to walk the earth in a particular way. I love him for that. He’s got a dignity and…
In getting the rating, it just becomes the second MCU movie to get an R-rating, the first being Deadpool 3. The makers of the movie are elated. But fans are wary of getting their hopes high.

They say that now but I’m not holding my breath. I’ve learned to not trust this studio

These two movies have given a golden chance to Marvel Studios to turn around their failures over the past 5 years. Only time will tell how they square up to the challenge.
