Ezra Miller’s upcoming movie, The Flash, is hailed as one of the greatest superhero movies at the CinemaCon screening and is now sending a strong message that you don’t need a lot of money to make great films. Despite featuring A-listers like Michael Keaton, Ben Affleck, and Michael Shannon, the much-awaited movie’s budget is being compared to Dwayne Johnson’s massively hyped Black Adam‘s unnecessary production budget of $260 million, but it’s The Rock fans who aren’t convinced.
The Rock Fans Slam The Budget Claim
The ever-controversial Ezra Miller‘s lead role in the upcoming DC movie, The Flash may have stirred some controversy, but its comparatively low budget of $220 million is certainly being praised widely by DC fans. In this process, Dwayne Johnson‘s Black Adam is again under fire for its massively-expensive production budget of $260 million, after being compared to Shazam 2.
The Home of DCU Twitter page recently posted, “The budget for is 220M, around 40M less than Black Adam’s!” While that’s being claimed, it’s true that despite featuring Hollywood’s A-listers like Michael Keaton, returning after almost three decades as Batman, in dream pair with DCU’s other Batman- Ben Affleck, and Micahel Shannon as General Zod, The Flash cost less.
The production budget of The Flash stands at $220 million, and fans are convinced that it doesn’t take an out-of-control budget to create epic superhero movies. While that remains true, The Rock fans aren’t convinced.
One fan contended, “The Rock confirmed that Black Adam’s production cost was $195M,” while another chimed, “The Rock never lies.” A fan highlighted the “contending reports” about the Black Adam budget. One mocked Miller, “The same people saying ‘I don’t believe that the budget has to be more’ are probably the same people who believe Ezra was on the run from the FBI while filming reshoots.”
The Flash Production Designer’s Take On Designing A BlockBuster
The logical conclusion of this never-ending “budget debate” rests in the fact that Black Adam‘s budget did grow to immense proportions during its production. Despite that, the 2002 film couldn’t deliver impressive CGIs and visuals, something that even Shazam 2 could do on a $190 million budget despite a poor box office performance. As for The Flash, fans would know it all on June 16, 2023.
As The Flash continues to garner praise following its premiere at the CinemaCon, film insider, Matt Ramos, insists fans believe the hype, calling it “one of the best superhero movies ever.” While director Andy Muschietti continues to stay in the limelight, there’s another man who needs due attention.
The Flash’s Oscar-winning production designer, Paul Austerberry, who is the face of several DC hits, revealed that the work that went into making The Flash was, perhaps, greater than del Toro’s Oscar-winning Shape of Water. The production designer referred to the herculean task of slamming together multiple Batmen from their respective universes, which took more than visual inspiration from previous DC films.
The Canadian production designer, however, tried to explain what it takes to design a blockbuster. He said, “The trick was to make sure that it looked more modern than the original one, but it still had to hearken back to certain design cues from the original.” The upcoming movie has already been praised multiple times by DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn.
