Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers certainly has the tendency to do the unexpected. When Marvel Studios announced their plans to release Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first female-led superhero film, not many believed it would do well at the box office. Still, Captain Marvel (2019) stunned everyone by surpassing the billion-dollar mark.
Meanwhile, in 2023, many expected The Marvels, which had one of the biggest budgets in the MCU ever, to shine at the box office. However, it endured a frustrating run, grossing just $206 million globally.
Interestingly, Larson’s salary for her second Marvel film as the lead has also raised a few eyebrows.
How Much Did Brie Larson Make From Her Role in MCU’s Biggest Flop
The Marvels brings Carol Danvers, Kamala Khan, and Monica Rambeau together by entangling their powers in the fight against Kree revolutionary, Dar-Benn. The source of all the chaos in the Nia DaCosta-directed is a jump point, a gateway that allows fast travel across space. However, Dar-Benn’s actions end up impacting the entire jump point network.
Fans and critics alike were left disappointed by the disjointed story and a frustrating attempt to rely on quippy humor to keep viewers hooked. The Marvels turned out to be both critical and financial disaster, cementing itself as the lowest-grossing MCU movie of all time.
Regardless of the stark contrast between the performance of Captain Marvel and The Marvels, Brie Larson‘s salary remained the same.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 34-year-old made $5 million for playing the title role for the first time in 2019. It’s understood (via Showbiz Galore) that Larson made the same amount for The Marvels as well.
How Much Teyonah Parris and Iman Vellani Earned From Brie Larson-Led The Marvels
As mentioned above, Iman Vellani‘s Ms. Marvel and Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau were also involved in the fight to save the universe from Dar-Benn. However, their limited star power meant their salaries were relatively meager when compared to Larson.
Parris, who made her big-screen debut as Monica in The Marvels, was reportedly paid just $1 million. Vellani, meanwhile, only took home $550,000. Despite her stint as the main antagonist in the story, Zawe Ashton’s paycheck didn’t cross the $ 250,000 mark.
Intriguingly, the highest-paid actor in the female-oriented film is MCU mainstay, Samuel L. Jackson. For reprising his role as Nick Fury, the veteran actor was paid $7 million, as per the report.
