It’s been quite a while since fans of Alexandra Daddario got a glimpse of the beautiful star, who left fans in awe with her slow-mo running on the beach in Baywatch, in a high-profile film. In recent years, Daddario has instead made regular appearances in television series like Mayfair Witches or The White Lotus.
Many fans have been hoping to see the 37-year-old make her big comeback on the big screen with a movie based on Zatanna. However, a recent update suggests the proposed DC project is not going to happen.
Why Alexandra Daddario’s Fans Aren’t Happy With the Latest DCU Zatanna Update
In 2021, it was widely reported that Promising Young Woman filmmaker Emerald Fennell had been roped in by DC Studios to write the movie Zatanna. A powerful half Homo Magi and the daughter of magician Giovanni “John” Zatara, Zatanna is one of the most enigmatic characters in DC Comics due to her ability to manipulate magic.
The character has worked with the Justice League and has been romantically linked to John Constantine in DC Comics. Fans of the DC Extended Universe never got a chance to see her but the superheroine featured in the CW television series Smallville. Inhumans star Serinda Swan played the role for three seasons.
Alexandra Daddario has long been the fan favorite for the proposed DC venture. The Baywatch star has even appeared in various fan art related to the magical character.
However, during her appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Fennell revealed that she did manage to write a script revolving around Zatanna for Bad Robot and Warner Bros. but the project has long been shelved. “No, no, it’s not happening. I loved it [though],” she said.
Whether the said Zatanna project will be revived in James Gunn’s DCU reboot remains unclear. However, it’s certainly not a part of DCU’s Chapter 1 Gods and Monsters.
Alexandra Daddario Is Involved in Another DC Comics Based Project
As things stand, Daddario fans will have to wait indefinitely to see her on-screen magic as Zatanna, but they will be able to hear her voice in the superhero genre next year.
The True Detective star is voicing Lois Lane in the animated series Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One. The eleventh installment in the Tomorrowverse is set to be released next month. The Jeff Wamester-written action adventure will follow the Anti-Monitor, who is released in the DC Multiverse and begins to destroy the different Earths.
Apart from Daddario, the likes of Matt Bomer and Jensen Ackles are also contributing their voices to the story, which is the start of a trilogy.
