Although the title was met with critical acclaim upon launch and garnered a heap of praise from the gaming community, it seems to have come off the rails with Season 1. Since the introduction of the controversial patch a few days before the Season 1 launch, Blizzard have fallen victim to some serious backlash from the community. Although not entirely unfounded.

What was the backlash with Diablo IV change?

Blizzard are reverting the controversial change made to Diablo IV

With the introduction of the 1.1.0 update fans complained about nerfs to the game’s classes and various other changes, claiming that the update was nothing short of a ‘disaster’.

But it was the controversial change made to the Leave Dungeon cast time, from 3 seconds to 5 seconds, which really did not sit will with fans. And on Reddit thread for Diablo IV, there was reference to the previous Campfire Chat of July 21 where Blizzard had the following to say on the controversial change when asked;

“It’s not that big of a deal outside of people minmaxing their time, and we added a Reset Dungeon button anyways. Next question.”

Avoidance at it’s finest! And fans were quick to pick up on the response;

“It was definitely intended for reasons they don’t wanna say. Dude started to stutter and jitter the moment the question came up.”

“Always love that response. “It’s a big enough deal to make an active decision to change it, but if you question it then it’s totally not a big enough deal to even merit an explanation. Really, it’s your fault for bringing it up in the first place. PR doesn’t seem like it should be this hard.”

But fast forward seven days and we can see the backlash from fans, who believe that Blizzard have simply implemented the change to waste players time in the game itself. And although Blizzard provided an explanation on the change, they have since confirmed that this will be reversed.

And funnily enough, this isn’t the first time that Blizzard have had to make changes to Diablo IV and then have to revert on it. There was added level requirements for World Tiers 3&4, which also angered the community and it didn’t take long before Blizzard confirmed that the level requirements would be removed. At least they are listening I suppose?
