However, Christopher Nolan’s reported earnings from the movie make Murphy’s numbers look microscopic. According to a September 2023 report by Unilad, Nolan reportedly struck a deal with Universe Pictures to earn 20% of every dollar that Oppenheimer makes at the box office.
When the report was published, Oppenheimer had grossed $900 million at the box office, and keeping that in mind, Nolan must have made $180 million at the time.
With the movie’s first theatrical run over, it made $952 million at the worldwide box office. If the news about Nolan’s deal with Universe Pictures is true, it means that the Inception director seemingly racked in north of $190 million.
Apart from Unilad, Super Car Blondie’s website also published a similar report in September 2023. However, outside of that, not many major news websites have given their take on the same.
Keeping that in mind, as of now, Nolan’s humongous earnings from Oppenheimer remain nothing but a rumor. If Nolan makes a statement on the same in the future, the status of the rumor could change. However, until then, it’s a rumor that Nolan earned almost $200 million for his work in the 2023 flick.
