Set in the mid-2000s, it follows a young 12-year-old Percy (portrayed by Walker Scobell) as he comes face-to-face with his demigod identity after realizing that he has powers.
While the series has been receiving somewhat mixed reviews, it has already started breaking Dinsey+ viewing records. As per a recent report by Variety, the first episode of Percy Jackson and the Olympians alone brought over 13.3 million views in about just six days on Disney+ and Hulu.
These record-breaking views have put the series among the top 5 most-watched season premieres of this year, on both Disney+ and Hulu, both of which have released some of the most followed series of 2023 like Loki, Ashoka, Only Murders in the Building, etc.
The series’ impressive six-day viewership shows that fans are still not over the popular mythos despite countless adaptations already present and continue to remain engrossed. Its viewership is also good news for Disney, which hopes to launch its very first franchise using its popular streaming platform, instead of just promoting franchises that exist beyond and before Disney+ came into existence (via Variety).
