Walker Scobell is the new kid on the block as he is starring in Rick Riordan’s epic TV series Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which has already started airing this week. The 14-year-old is the perfect choice for Percy Jackson and that was on full display during a recent interview where Scobell said he was scared for his life after witnessing pure malicious intent in his co-star’s eyes.

Prior to this series, the only real-life adaptations of the beloved books were the two movies starring Alexandro Daddario. Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning Thief and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters – both movies received terrible reviews from fans and critics alike, which is why fans really want Percy Jackson and the Olympians to be a proper adaptation.

Walker Scobell already exudes a ton of charm and charisma, which is why he was chosen to portray Percy Jackson in the series. While speaking to the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Walker Scobell stated that he legitimately feared for his life when co-star Leah Jeffries dashed towards him during a scene, because he felt she had malicious intent in her eyes.

You know this scene, after I snapped the spear and she like screams and runs at me, I was actually afraid. Like looking at that, she had pure malicious intent in her eyes. I thought she was gonna hurt me”

Walker Scobell has already displayed the kind of nuances and perks that fans have grown accustomed to while reading the Percy Jackson books. We will have to wait and see whether the series will end up rectifying the mistakes that the films made for the franchise.

While speaking to Screen Rant, Rick Riordan and his wife Becky Riordan talked about Percy Jackson and the Olympians. When asked what would surprise Percy Jackson fans the most about the show, Rick Riordan stated that it would be how lovingly it was adapted.

Rick Riordan: I think one thing maybe for me is that they’re going to be surprised at how lovingly it was adapted. There are Easter eggs in there that even hardcore fans of the books who know it page by page might not be expecting to see on the screen that are in there.

And that’s not just because of Becky and me, that’s because of the whole team looking through the source material and saying, “This would be really fun to put in.”

Becky Riordan: I think Jon [Steinberg] and Dan [Shotz] put more in there than we even suggested. Rick and I were always like, “Oh, we can deviate from it and do this and whatever.” And they were much more faithful, I think, than we were.

Rick Riordan: Yeah. So that’s one thing that’ll surprise them. I think the other thing that might surprise people is the nice backstory that we filled in to the Lightning Thief in the season that was never in the book, but once you see it makes total sense: “Oh, of course, these two characters would be off having a conversation like this in some other part of the camp.”

Becky Riordan: Right, because it’s not just Percy’s voice; it has to be everybody.”

So far, only two episodes of Percy Jackson and the Olympians have been released and the show already garnered an impressive 8.3/10 on IMDB. We’ll have to see if the whole show ends up becoming a hit with fans in the end when it concludes.
