John Wick: Chapter 4 explores the titular character’s backstory and it does so by introducing a whole host of new characters played by actors like Donnie Yen, Shamier Anderson, Bill Skarsgård, Rina Sawayama, Hiroyuki Sanada, Clancy Brown, and more. With the movie receiving rave reviews and thundering at the box office, a fifth movie is almost inevitable. Now, fans want the makers to bring on new A-list actors to join the Keanu Reeves-led franchise and Chad Stahelski is on board with the idea.
Chad Stahelski Wants Hollywood’s Best To Join The Franchise
Director Chad Stahelski is receiving global acclaim for the amazing action scenes and stunt direction in John Wick: Chapter 4. Fans of the franchise are also loving the way the story and lore have been given greater depth than ever before. They want the same to continue in the next one with bigger stars joining the franchise. During an interview with Screen Rant, Stahelski was asked which actor he wants to bring next to the John Wick films.
To this, the director said that he and Keanu Reeves have a list of actors they want to bring on board like Cillian Murphy, Jason Statham, Jackie Chan, and more. Stahelski said:
“So many people. So many! Keanu and I have a whole board of people we’d love to work with. If you told me Cillian Murphy was going to be in a John Wick movie, I’d be like, ‘Oh my God!’ If you told me Jackie Chan or Jet Li, or Jason Statham? If you said Stallone was going to make a cameo! I’m a little bit old school.”
While Stahelski is thankful to anyone who expresses interest in his franchise, the director has a dream list of actors he would love to cast in the next John Wick films or spinoffs. The list includes Hollywood heavyweights like Hugh Jackman, Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale and more. As per Stahelski:
“So the dream list is, ‘Clint Eastwood is going to make an appearance.’ Christian Bale, Chris Hemsworth, or Hugh Jackman; Matt Damon and all these people that I love…
Apart from these celebs, Stahelski also mentioned Aquaman star Jason Momoa and said that he and Keanu Reeves are friends with the actor and would love to have him in the franchise. In the end, the director stated that he would love to work with all the above actors, whether in the John Wick franchise or something else.
Chad Stahelski Talks About John Wick: Chapter 5
During the interview with Screen Rant, Chad Stahelski clarified that originally John Wick: Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 were supposed to shoot back-to-back. But he declined Lionsgate’s (the production studio’s) offer. Stahelski said:
“The studio first came to us and went, ‘Look, we would like to explore the option of doing 4 and 5 together.’ And the daunting-ness of that at first is a little intimidating, [but] it’s also incredibly flattering… Creatively, I don’t know how to get my head around that. I think the greatest part is that, after each John Wick, I took two years off to go live and get better; to travel, to read more, and to get better.”
The director said that he took a break because he wanted to ensure the next film would be its thing and not an extension of Chapter 4. He said:
“I don’t know how to do a movie back-to-back and get better for the second one. You’d see John Wick 4 and then John Wick 4B, right? Same camera, same colors, same action, same style of choreography, same storylines. I had no time to, to be influenced by life and bring life back in, so I just thought it was kind of a cheat.”
As for what Stahelski is planning for Chapter 5, the director said that even he has no idea and wants to see how the current film does. He said, “I don’t know what John Wick 5 is right now. I may have thoughts, ideas, and fragments of stuff, but I think I need a little time to breathe and see how this one does.” John Wick: Chapter 4 has grossed $152.7 million till now and it’s poised to earn way more. As such, it looks like it’s only a matter of time till Chapter 5 is officially announced.
