Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 3 is currently stalled at the moment owing to the Actors Strike, but is still one of the most anticipated films from Marvel and Disney. Director Shawn Levy who is also slated to make a Star Wars film in the future, spoke about how the iconic George Lucas franchise played a major part in influencing a key scene in Deadpool 3. This revelation though, was met with criticism from certain corners, with netizens questioning the lack of originality in the film.
Shawn Levy Was Inspired By Star Wars For A Scene In Deadpool 3
Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy has an impressive repertoire of films under his belt as a filmmaker and producer. From directorial projects like The Night at the Museum series to being one of the producers of Stranger Things, Levy has gained success through most of his ventures. A self-confessed Star Wars fan, the filmmaker spoke of the big impact that the cult franchise had on him, especially during the making of Deadpool 3.

In an interview with Esquire, Levy spoke about a key scene in the Ryan Reynolds starrer, in which he took inspiration from the iconic encounter between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader in Return of the Jedi, and tried to recreate that in Deadpool 3. Speaking of the scene that he felt, would be an ode to his favorite franchise, he recalled,
“I said to my stunt and action team, ‘Guys, this is the Jedi moment’. I pulled up that scene of Vader and Luke on my phone and restudied how it was photographed, how it was blocked, the framing, the tempo. The keen Star Wars fan will see the shot in my Deadpool movie that was inspired by a moment that I saw in a theater decades ago. That’s a forever memory. And that’s a treasure.”
With Deadpool 3 being indefinitely stalled due to the Actors Strike, audiences will have to exercise a little more patience to see this scene play out in theaters, with the film slated to release in 2024.
Netizens React To Star Wars Influence In Deadpool 3

What I take from this is: “We had to actually go back and actually learn how to correctly shoot a fight scene since…well, Disney doesn’t know how.”
