Jay Leno never misses the spotlight. The infamous television show host once had a spat with iconic actor Angelina Jolie in an episode of his The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Jolie is known for being brave and bold in Hollywood and she was far from letting Leno’s jokes on her slide.
Leno derived the seeds of the jokes on Jolie and her brother James Haven from the infamous sibling kiss at the 72nd Academy Awards in 2000. Jolie won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in James Mangold’s psychological drama Girl, Interrupted.
Angelina Jolie Slammed Jay Leno On His Show
Angelina Jolie was not ready to let anyone speak ill of her relationship with her brother James Haven. The siblings have been very close to each other as the duo was seen bonding on numerous occasions. After receiving her first Oscar, the actor kissed her brother on the lips at the Vanity Fair afterparty which was quickly captured for the mass media. It has certainly given birth to many discussions. Jay Leno, known for his comedy, made some jokes about the relationship between the stars as well. The action star was not very happy about it. “They really weren’t funny,” Jolie told Leno on his show.
“I actually, you know my you know the thing is and I’ve been, excuse me, I’ve been waiting for this. Yeah, um, anybody here you know when somebody says stuff about your family we’re just, it’s just not okay. And my mom’s been just not okay about the stuff about me, my brother.”
The actor further asked Leno to do “a favor” while handing him a note of his jokes on her, “read these things that you’ve said.” After reading the highlighted jokes on television, Leno asked if his jokes were terrible. “They’re not terrible. I actually didn’t highlight the ones that were so, so terrible. I didn’t want my mom looking for them again,” she responded. Clearly, Jolie was upset about how her public display of affection towards her brother turned into a hot subject of gossip and unprecedented jokes.
How Angelina Jolie and James Haven Reacted to The Escalated Gossip
As their photograph of locking lips hit the mass media, there was a quick sensation orbiting the celebrity siblings. For the siblings, they have always been close to each other. In fact, Jolie thanked Haven acknowledging his love and support for her Oscar win. “I’m in shock, and I’m so in love with my brother right now,” she said in her Oscar speech (via US Weekly). “He just held me and said he loved me, and I know he’s so happy for me. And, um, thank you for that,” she added. Jolie later clarified her infamous kiss with her brother while chatting with Entertainment Weekly, saying it was nothing “more than brotherly” love they have for each other. The actor further revealed that her “parents really loved that moment, and that’s what will always matter.”
In March 2007 Haven also addressed the issue. “I did not give Angie a French kiss. It was something simple and lovely,” he told Daily Mail years later. “She was about to go off to Mexico to finish filming Original Sin with Antonio Banderas,” he continued. “I congratulated her on the Oscar win and gave her a quick kiss on the lips. It was snapped and became a big thing,” the actor added. Things have settled now and the discussion on it has faded over time but the bond between the siblings continued.
