Ncuti Gatwa recently took to Instagram to address the reports surrounding Millie Gibson’s exit from the popular science fiction television series Doctor Who. Celebrating its 60th anniversary, the show introduced Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor in the 2023 Christmas Special, The Church on Ruby Road. The actor was also joined by Millie Gibson, who played the role of his companion, Ruby Sunday, and the duo is also set to star in the next season of the show.
As anticipation builds for Season 14’s premiere later this year, recent reports surrounding the show have revealed that Gibson is set to be replaced after only one season.
Ncuti Gatwa Addresses Millie Gibson’s Exit From Doctor Who
Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa recently took to Instagram to react to the reports surrounding Mille Gibson’s departure from the show. Sharing a picture with his co-star on Instagram stories, the actor captioned the picture with “My lil” and paired it with a heart emoji.
The actress is set to star alongside Gatwa in Season 14 of the show and was reportedly filming the next season as well. However, the actress has allegedly been written off the show under the directive of showrunner Russell T Davies and is now set to be replaced by the Andor star Varada Sethu.
Although she will appear in a handful of episodes in the upcoming season, the actress will reportedly no longer be in the 2024 Christmas special and the next season. Season 15 is reportedly being filmed in Wales and will feature Sethu as the new companion to Doctor Who.
So far, no official statement has been released about Gibson’s involvement in the show, with both BBC and the actress refraining from responding to such reports. However, Gatwa’s post appears to confirm the claims.

Why is Millie Gibson Leaving Doctor Who?
The 19-year-old actress popularly known for starring in the British soap opera Coronation Street made her Doctor Who debut in the Christmas Special, The Church on Ruby Road. And the news about her departure from the show came as surprising as Gibson’s performance in the Christmas Special has been received very well.
While no official statements have been released concerning her departure from the show, earlier reports have revealed the behind-the-scenes dynamics and challenges that may have contributed to her exit. According to a 2023 report from The Mirror, insiders claimed that Gibson faced difficulties adjusting to the demands of night shoots during the filming in Cardiff.
While some acknowledged her commitment to the role, others also described her reactions to night shoots as less than enthusiastic. “She is determined to get it right,” one insider said before adding, “But the days are long, and at times, when night filming has been suggested, she has made her feelings clear.”
Reports also suggested that Gibson’s attitude allegedly caused friction behind the scenes, with some branding her as a “diva.” While these behind-the-set dynamics offer a glimpse into possible reasons for Gibson’s departure, no official statement has been released regarding her exit or any specific reasons behind it at this time.
