Fans may have been feeling they’ve had enough dinosaur movies over the past few years, but that’s simply because Chris Pratt’s Jurassic World trilogy has been rehashing the same plot, eventually veering away from the essence that made the original 1993 Jurassic Park a timeless classic.
With the news of an upcoming installment called Jurassic World Rebirth, many fans are hoping it will finally go back to its roots and cut back on unnecessary storylines. This is a movie about dinosaurs, after all, so it better be a film revolving around the subject creatures.
Chris Pratt’s Jurassic World Trilogy Failed To Recreate The Horrors Of Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park
Steven Spielberg blessed fans with the first-ever Jurassic Park movie in 1993 which brought so much thrill and terror to its viewers. What if we live in a world where dinosaurs would roam free, or worse – dominate the Earth? It was an intriguing premise at the time since the introduction of genetic engineering, a branch of science that could bring back extinct beings to life using prehistoric DNA.
Fans lined up at theaters to watch it, making it a massive critical and commercial success. Spielberg’s use of special effects and life-like animatronics produced the most exhilarating awe and sheer terror from its spectators. Dinosaurs went extinct 65 million years ago before people appeared on Earth, so everyone was painfully curious about what it would be like to live among them in the present time.
While Chris Pratt’s Jurassic World trilogy performed well at the box office, the series didn’t have the same atmosphere as the original film. The focus became the dangers of technology as well as human relationships. It also didn’t help that the dinosaurs were no longer frightening on the screen. Humans stopped fearing the raptors and they treated them like pets.
Baylor University professor James Kendrick told BBC that his students “saw [Jurassic Park] as a kid and it scared them witless” which has always been the desired effect. Spielberg’s fascination with science-fiction and monster movies inspired the making of Jurassic Park, and he attempted to “overcome his own fears by scaring others”. This has been lost in the reboot franchise.
With Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey headlining Gareth Edwards’ Jurassic World Rebirth, it’s now wishful thinking to expect Spielberg to take over and bring back the old wonders of the famed saga.

Jurassic World Dominion was critically panned for its empty storyline, emerging as a mediocre adventure film that terribly failed to understand the themes behind the Jurassic Park franchise as a whole.
