Dominique Dunne was an American actress known for starring in movies like The Poltergeist, The Shadow Riders, and, Diary of a Teenage Hitch-Hiker. With her fame in Hollywood and a relationship gone wrong, Dominique Dunne was found murdered by her ex-boyfriend in 1982.
Although the case and the trial were finished, new details into the heinous crime leave room for more. As per the recent reports, the killer of Dominique is still out there and has repeated the crime even after going to trial for Dunne’s death!
“I killed my girlfriend, and I tried to kill myself”
John Sweeney was a chef at a hotel when he entered into a relationship with Dominique Dunne. The actress had just touched the clouds of fame and the duo shifted into a one-bedroom house on Rangely Avenue in West Hollywood.
On 30th October 1982, almost a month after their break-up (due to physical abuse), John Sweeney called Dominique Dunne on the porch to have a chat with her. Police later found Sweeney surrendering himself to the authorities while claiming “I killed my girlfriend, and I tried to kill myself”. Turns out, Sweeney strangled Dunne and the oxygen depravity caused her brain activity to stop. After being on life-support for a few days, Dunne’s family decided to take her out of it and she died on 4 November 1982.
What’s harrowing is that Dunne’s breakthrough role in The Poltergeist was just released. Steven Spielberg had some things to say about the 1982 movie and Indiana Jones 2 but that’s a different story. Just mere months after Dunne’s fame, the actress was strangled by her ex-boyfriend and was sent to trial for the murder.
After the trial of John Sweeney ended, the chef was soon set free after some years. A recent report by TMZ states that Sweeney’s rage did not stop after his trial for murder! Instead the rage was released on another helpless woman who suffered under the hands of John Sweeney!
Dominique Dunne’s Killer Continued To Terrify Other Victims!
As per the latest report by TMZ, the report confirmed that John Sweeney had terrified another victim after the trial and punishment for the murder of Dominique Dunne. Sweeney had committed domestic violence after the trial and it was confirmed in a 2000 complaint.
A woman had lodged a complaint against the chef back in 2000 alleging that she was dragged by her ponytail through a hotel lobby, had her head shoved in a bathtub, pushed against a wall, and Sweeney put his hands on her collarbone. Filing a restraining order against John Sweeney, the chef wasn’t charged with a crime. After receiving backlash from Domonique Dunne’s family, John Sweeney changed his name to John Maura and has continued to live in isolation without any news of the chef’s current whereabouts.
