The show has become a topic of conversation ahead of its premiere, but the talks don’t seem too favorable toward the series as people continue to compare it to the original film. Released in 2005, Mr. and Mrs. Smith featured Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in the lead role.

The movie received mixed reviews but was a box office hit, grossing over $487 million. Fans of the film do not seem too pleased with the remake series starring Donald Glover and Erskine and have called it a “wish.com version” of the original movie.

Many also said that although Glover is a great actor, they have a “bad feeling” about it, with others calling it an unnecessary remake. Some also claimed that the original film was the best, as they criticized Hollywood’s practice of making remakes by replacing “white actors” without giving any significance to the story.

Donald Glover is Prepared For the Audience’s Reaction

During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, actor Donald Glover shared that he is ready for the potentially mixed response to his upcoming series. He said that he is aware that the remake series of the 2005 film will be different for a lot of people, but he is anticipating good along with bad reviews for the series.

It’s definitely going to be different for a lot of people, which I think is good,” he said before adding, “So if everybody’s like, ‘Eh,’ we didn’t do a good job. I hope some people are like, ‘This is better than the original,’ and some people are like, ‘This is far worse.'”

He also claimed that the Prime Video series would be different from the 2005 movie and would also shock many. The series was earlier set to star Phoebe Waller-Bridge alongside Glover. However, the actress left the project due to some creative differences with the actor and producer of the series. Maya Erskine took over Waller-Bridge’s role in the remake.
