Marvel Studios has introduced Jonathan Majors as its new threat, Kang the Conquerer after Thanos’s saga ended with Avengers: Endgame (2019). However, the big baddie of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga is facing legal troubles in real life which is likely affecting his reputation, that the franchise needs to tackle.
Given that MCU has been unfolding its multiverse saga linking Kang in every aspect, removing the character altogether would be a hectic task. However, a Reddit theory dives into how the franchise has already established a perfect alternative to recast actors thus moving on with the comic character.
Majors made his debut by playing the role of Kang’s variant, Nathaniel Richards/He Who Remains in Loki Season 1. His major role appeared in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania where he played Kang and Victor Timely (another variant of Kang). Given that he is facing serious charges, it has put the studio in a tight spot. However, this Reddit theory explains the alternative that Marvel has worked on for a while.
Jonathan Majors Can be Replaced in the MCU as Per This Reddit Theory
On Reddit, a page titled, MCUTheories presented a theory on how Jonathan Majors can be recast as Marvel has already explored that option in different projects. The theory mentioned,
“In Dr. Strange And The Multiverse Of Madness, we got multiple Dr. Stranges occupying the same universe/timeline, as well as another Peggy Carter (as Captain Britain).”
While their versions looked the same as the original timeline, Spider-Man: No Way Home has 3 Peter Parkers with different appearances played by Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland. Whereas, in Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, the variants were completely different from one another, which was given a proper explanation. That theory firmly established that “variants were not just variants in name, but also could differ between each other in terms of appearance, gender, and even species.”
Thus, this alternative can easily replace Kang since Paul Rudd’s movie already ended with a hint that the Kang they defeated was not even the worst of them. Also, Kang’s same appearance all over the TVA is due to a simple explanation that his variant was the one who formulated the whole TVA concept.
Given that Kang has already been defeated with his other variants being great threats, he could be recast several times. Now that, Majors can be recast several times, some strong contenders could rock this character.
Actors Who Can Play Kang in MCU
John David Washington
John David Washington is a promising talent who has captivated the audience with his performance in the action genre with projects like Tenet and The Creator. His compelling screen presence and excelling complex action sequences further add another dimension to his roles which makes him a strong contender to fill Kang’s shoes.
Giancarlo Esposito
He is no stranger to playing antagonist roles which naturally makes him a fitting actor for Kang’s role. From portraying Gus Fring in the Breaking Bad franchise to donning Moff Gideon’s role in The Mandalorian, he has done it all. He is known for playing complex characters that radiate the boss’s energy, making him a great choice to step into the time-traveler’s role.
Donald Glover
Donald Glover has been involved with the franchise as he portrayed Aaron Davis/Prowler in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Having already reprised his role in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, he has also contributed to the Black Panther with Stephen Glover. Given that he is already well-versed in the franchise, having him in the Kang role would add more dimension to the character.
Aldis Hodge
Aldis Hodge has already worked in the superhero genre as he portrayed Hawkman in Black Adam and John Stewart / Green Lantern in the animated film, Green Lantern: Beware My Power. Thus, he is a strong contender for Kang’s role and would surely gonna add more depth to the character.
Denzel Washington
Denzel Washington is a seasoned actor who received numerous accolades for his outstanding work in the entertainment world. Many fans have already shared their opinion on having him portray ‘older Kang.’ With his versatility and diverse portfolio, he surely possesses the talent to take on Kang’s role to become a great threat to the multiverse.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has already portrayed a variety of characters which easily makes him a great contender for Kang’s role. He also possesses the experience of being a villain in the superhero genre with his renowned portrayal of Black Manta in the Aquaman series. He is already been tapped to play Simon Williams/Wonder Man in Marvel’s Wonder Man series. Given his portfolio, he surely has the potential to portray the character to continue Kang’s arc in the multiverse saga.
