Jonathan Majors’ arrest earlier this year was a widely reported affair. The string of controversies surrounding the event culminated in a trial, and on 18th December 2023, the former MCU actor was convicted of assaulting and harassing his ex-girlfriend.

But this isn’t the only infamous case of an arrest this year of a celebrity that surprised the general masses. From supermodel Gigi Hadid to activist Greta Thunberg, footballer Dani Alves to notorious politician Donald Trump—the following is a list of a few celebrities arrested this year on various charges.
1. Jonathan Majors
Reports of Jonathan Majors‘ arrest first surfaced on March 25, 2023. This was a month following the actor’s stint in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Authorities charged the MCU alum with assault, harassment, and strangulation, according to the Associated Press. This stemmed from a domestic dispute with a 30-year-old woman, later identified to be Jonathan Majors’s ex-partner, Grace Jabbari.
The spokesperson of the 34-year-old Loki actor had denied these accusations. In light of the incident, Majors was dropped by his management company and PR firm. The assault trial commenced in late 2023, the culmination of which resulted in his conviction. A Manhattan jury found Jonathan Majors guilty of misdemeanor assault and harassment, following which Marvel Studios cut ties with the actor.
2. Donald Trump
A Manhattan grand jury charged Donald Trump on thirty-four felony counts related to fraud and falsifying internal business accounts this year on March 30, 2023. He turned himself in a few days later, on April 4, and was placed under arrest. He pleaded not guilty on all counts when arraigned in a historic court appearance.
In June, he was arrested yet again. The former US President was in custody at a Miami courthouse. He was indicted on 37 counts for retention of hundreds of classified documents.
He was taken into custody once more in August and processed at Fulton County Jail, where his mug shot became the buzz of the town for many days. Later, he was freed on bail. This occurred after he was indicted on racketeering and related charges.
3. Dani Alves

This year, Dani Alves‘s well-celebrated legacy as a renowned football player took an enormous blow when he was arrested on January 20, 2023, by Catalan police in Spain on charges of s*xual assault. A Spanish judge ruled that he must be held without bail.
The alleged assault was stated to have occurred a month before at a nightclub in Barcelona. Initially, the footballer denied the allegations. However, later, his account of the incident changed four times. After he was arrested, UNAM decided to terminate Alves’s contract with the club.
Following his formal indictment, reports from December of this year stated that a court in Barcelona set the start date of the footballer’s trial for February 5, 2024.
4. Tiffany Haddish
Actress and stand-up comedian Tiffany Haddish found herself in hot water after being arrested on November 24, 2023, on suspicion of driving under the influence. The Girls Trip alum has dealt with legal troubles before, having been arrested in Georgia, in 2022 on another charge of DUI. In her most recent occurrence, it was reported that Beverly Hills police allegedly found her asleep behind the wheel in the driver’s seat of her vehicle while the engine was still running.
5. Gigi Hadid

Supermodel and fashion sensation Gigi Hadid was arrested in the Cayman Islands on July 10, 2023. She was reportedly detained for marijuana possession while she was on vacation. Hadid was charged with offenses for importation, even after it was allegedly determined that the possession of marijuana was for personal use only.
Hadid was later released on bail after she pleaded guilty and was fined $1,000. She went back to happily vacationing afterward.
6. Greta Thunberg
2023 may have been note-worthy for the well-known environmental activist who faced multiple detentions. Calling on the German authorities during a demonstration in Lützerath in January 2023, Thunberg stood against the expansion of a local coal mine. Thunberg and other activists were taken away by the police and detained when they reportedly refused to leave the edge of the mine.
On June 2023, the climate activist was additionally accused by Swedish authorities of allegedly disobeying police orders to leave a protest in Malmö. She was subsequently arrested.
A few months later, in October, Greta Thunberg was arrested at an oil conference in London. As per Reuters, she was taken into custody after locking arms with many protestors to block the entrances to a hotel hosting the oil and gas conference.
These were the few celebrities who faced shocking arrests this year. Several trials involving some of the mentioned figures are scheduled for 2024.
