Kang the Conqueror and He Who Remains were two quintessential versions of Kang, becoming multiversal threats in their own right. However, both these variants were dealt with by Ant-Man and Sylvie respectively, vacating the spot for the top dog among the multiversal Kangs. This is where we could see Doctor Doom come into the MCU.

Now that the Kangs are practically in a free-for-all for the control of the Multiverse, this could assure their mutual destruction, ridding the worlds of Kang, and paving the path for a new villain in Avengers: Secret Wars. While the Beyonder could be the choice for the sixth Avengers feature, another antagonist far more sinister could make his debut in the MCU.

Kang Dynasty could end with two possible candidates as the antagonist for Avengers: Secret Wars

Doctor Doom famously orchestrated the events of Secret Wars (2015), something that can very much happen in the MCU. As the Kangs find themselves in an all-out civil war, none of the Conquerors may come out on top, causing the dangerous ones to wipe each other out, while the lesser Kangs are dispersed across the Multiverse. This could give way to two possibilities, given that Avengers: Kang Dynasty is to be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars.

After the events of Avengers: Kang Dynasty, the power vacuum that is left behind could see two characters take up the role of He Who Remains, and become the next big threat that the Avengers have to come together to defeat: The Beyonder, who was the antagonist of the original Secret Wars, and Doctor Doom in the 2015 iterations of the storyline.

Doctor Doom would serve as the perfect successor to Thanos

When we talk about an Avengers-level antagonist, there need to be certain things that the studio gets right about such a character. For starters, the character should pose a threat, or at least should be capable of going toe-to-toe with each member of the Avengers. Thanos was able to handle the Hulk, Thor and Doctor Strange individually, who were some of the strongest hitters in the MCU. Once the character had the Infinity Gauntlet, he was able to go toe to toe with Carol Danvers and Wanda Maximoff as well.

Doctor Doom would serve as the perfect successor to such a legacy. Even if the character has to face the combined might of the Avengers, X-Men and the Fantastic Four, fans can rest assured that the character will serve as more than a challenge to the superhero army. Not only is the character an accomplished scientist on par with the likes of Tony Stark and Reed Richards, but he is also a proficient sorcerer and technopath, giving him an edge over more than a few characters in the MCU.
