The 45th president of the United States, Donald Trump, has been ordered to pay $83.3 million in damages for defamatory statements he made while denying he s*xually assaulted the writer E. Jean Carroll. In 2019, Caroll published an article in New York magazine that stated that Trump had s*xually assaulted her in late 1995 or early 1996. Trump denied the allegations and made several defamatory remarks against Caroll.
Quite promptly, Carroll filed a defamation lawsuit against Trump. In 2022, she sued Trump for battery and made a renewed claim of defamation.
A federal jury has now ordered Trump to pay Caroll $83.3 million in damages, with Trump claiming that he will appeal the decision. When the allegations came forward, Trump had claimed that it was an attempt to sabotage his 2024 presidential campaign by keeping him “busy with litigation.”

Writer E. Jean Carroll, who filed a defamation lawsuit against the 45th president of the United States, Donald Trump, has been awarded $83.3 million. As per CBS, Trump has been ordered by the court to pay Carroll $7.3 million in emotional damages, $11 million in reputation-related damages, and $65 million in punitive damages, totaling $83.3 million.
As for Trump, he claimed that he would appeal. It has been revealed that the judge advised the jurors not to disclose that they had been jurors in the case, and forbade them from revealing each others’ identities. During the proceedings, Carroll’s attorneys asked the jury to also award $24 million in compensatory damages.
E. Jean Carroll accused Donald Trump of s*xual assault in 2019
In a 2019 article for New York magazine, E. Jean Carroll stated that Donald Trump had s*xually assaulted her in late 1995 or early 1996 in the Bergdorf Goodman department store in New York City, at a time when there were no sales attendants present in the department. Trump immediately denied the allegations, making defamatory remarks against Caroll.

As a result, Caroll filed a defamation lawsuit with the support of George Conway, accusing Trump of damaging her reputation and causing emotional pain. Trump released a statement later claiming that the allegation “is a hoax and a lie.” As per the New York Times, on November 24, 2022, Carroll sued Trump for battery under the Adult Survivors Act and made a renewed claim.
