Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero recently came out with an electrifying gameplay showcase, and by the looks of it, there are a ton of cool fights, moves, and features coming to the game. It’s going to be the ultimate step up from the other Budokai Tenkaichi games without deviating from the series’ energy, and the one feature that fans identified in the showcase reinforces just that.
If you’re a BT fan and hoped to see the What-If sagas make a comeback in the upcoming DB game, your wishes might have just come true.
Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Might’ve Brought Back What-Ifs
The new gameplay showcase for the Budokai Tenkaichi revival couldn’t have been received any better. Fans are ecstatic at what Sparking Zero has to offer, leaving no stone unturned. We’ve got some cool features like skill counts, revenge counters, and super perception that will change how each battle feels and plays out.

Arguably, one of the most exciting features seems to be taken from the previous Budokai Tenkaichi games. It was brought to many people’s attention by a post on the Tenkaichi 4 subreddit (referring to the upcoming SZ title).
In the screenshot, we can see legendary Saiyans Broly and Kale going at it with each other. However, these two actually never meet in canonical media.
Let’s go back in time a bit to the original BT games. They had a cool feature called ‘What-If‘ where players could trigger instances not depicted in the original manga or anime series.
These moments were created during gameplay by specific conditions, such as completing a fight in Dragon History without using certain mechanics.
For instance, in the chapter “Goku Strikes Back,” if the player chooses not to press the R3 trigger during the fight against King Piccolo, after his defeat, Tambourine may suddenly appear to attack Goku. In this scenario, Goku, exhausted from the battle, is unable to fend off Tambourine’s assault. However, Chi-Chi intervenes, saving Goku from potential harm.
Now, back to SZ. While there are many probabilities as to what the Broly x Kale scene from the showcase could be, a lot of players feel that it’s a hint at What-Ifs making a comeback—and they couldn’t be happier.
Players Hope That What-Ifs Make a Comeback
The subreddit’s users were nothing less than ecstatic at the prospect that What-if sagas could make their return to the series.

One user felt that bits of information sprinkled in between the gameplay showcase did hint at what we saw as a What-if saga.
