After Dragon Ball Z, the series that made the most amount of noise from the franchise was Dragon Ball Super. Known for its epic battles and for introducing new and powerful characters, the series has been around for almost a decade. The most amount of applause the series got was because it introduced some of the nostalgic characters bringing back old memories. However, not every character has a perfect storyline in the series.
Future Trunk’s return in the series feels similar to that of Dragon Ball Z, as in both series he returns with an announcement about a threat lurking in the present day that might destroy the future. In Dragon Ball Z it was the Androids and in Dragon Ball Super, it was Black Goku. But his introduction is not a part of concern for the fans. It’s his ending that got disregarded in Dragon Ball Super.
Dragon Ball Super Gives a Depressing End To the Story of Future Trunks
Future Trunks would return in Dragon Ball Super more than a decade later, this time fighting against a mystery creature known as Goku Black who was creating havoc in the future. In the end, the crew defeats the menace, but Zamasu not only survives the ordeal, but he becomes an even stronger threat, requiring Future Zeno to eliminate him. The Trunks from the future had no world to return to as a result of this universe-shattering fight, so they headed out to a timeline that presumably already had Trunks there.
As of now, fans have no idea what happened to Future Trunks when he left for this new timeline, though we expect the Z-Fighter from the future to return to Dragon Ball Super shortly.
Future Trunks Ending Opens Him for More Dangers
Future Trunks’ mission in Dragon Ball Super is technically successful, but he leaves with an even bigger target on his back after his confrontation with Zamasu. His timeline is considerably more shattered than before, and he will very certainly face even larger threats in the following years, just as he eventually had to face Future Dabura in his timeline. The uncertain finale of Future Trunks has left fans in sorrow, and ultimately they would rather watch him suddenly go out on his terms while he enjoys the rest of his life.
The events of Dragon Ball Super would be easier to grasp if they left Future Trunks in a better situation than he was when he left the Dragon Ball Z series. Future Trunks undoubtedly makes an effect in Dragon Ball Super, but the series shouldn’t have to disregard character growth and a happy ending to make the story interesting.
