Dragon Ball Super was the last series that the late Akira Toriyama was working on. The anime became a massive hit, especially since the fans got to see the Saiyan warriors on the screen several years later. But the anime went on a hiatus after the successful Tournament of Power saga. Even though the anime came to a halt, the manga was being continued by the late Toriyama sensei and Toyotarou.

The transformations are a massive reason for the franchise’s success. Even Dragon Ball Super had several memorable transformations, including Super Saiyan God and Mastered Ultra Instinct. But one thing the anime never showcased was Vegeta using a particular technique against Fused Zamasu. Toyotarou created it, but it never got an anime adaptation.

Dragon Ball Super had a lot of potential, and it fulfilled every anime lover’s wish of seeing the Saiyans putting up against the Gods. The Black Goku saga was praised for its color palette and for bringing back two fan-favorite characters, Future Trunks, and Vegito. Even though the fans have so much to enjoy, they will be upset to know that they never got to see Vegeta getting a Saiyan upgrade. The upgrade happened in the manga but was never adapted into an anime.

Toyotarou, one of the mangaka of Dragon Ball Super, gave Vegeta a new ability that allowed him to transform mid-fight. During his battle with Fused Zamasu, he juggled between Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue. Initially, he transformed into Super Saiyan Blue and used his excessive strength to battle against the antagonist. Knowing that the form absorbed a lot of the user’s stamina and was hard to sustain during a long battle, he transformed into Super Saiyan God.

Transforming mid-battle gave him the choice to toggle between different types of abilities. Vegeta’s new-found upgrade was called ‘Explosive Power.’ Moreover, the anime watchers never got to see Vegeta’s Super Saiyan God transformation. It all happened in the manga.

Toyotarou’s Previous Works Helped Him Develop Explosive Power

Vegeta’s ‘Explosive Power’ was inspired by Toyotarou’s previous works. Before joining the Dragon Ball franchise officially, he used to write the Dragon Ball doujinshi, also called Dragon Ball AF. Dragon Ball AF was a comic that was created for purely entertainment purposes. The manga industry has a great relationship with the doujinshi artists. It helped them recruit someone to write a manga when the original writers fell sick or died.

In Dragon Ball AF, Vegeta toggled between Super Saiyan 3 and Super Saiyan 4 while fighting against Xicor. Xicor was the offspring of Goku and King Kai of the West. On pen and paper, Xicor was more potent, but Vegeta’s Explosive Power helped him overcome Xicor’s strength. It would have been a massive success if the fans also experienced such terrific power. Unfortunately, it is only reserved for manga and doujinshi readers for now.

Dragon Ball Super is available on Crunchyroll.
