Hitting social media on Saturday, a leaked diss track from Drake has set the hip-hop world abuzz. Although there’s no confirmation if the song actually came from the rapper or its AI-constructed music, the Canadian singer appears aiming for none other than Kendrick Lamar in the lyrics.
In the track, Drake appears making cheeky references to Rick Ross, The Weeknd, and also appears to send a stray at Ja Morant. But overall, the majority of the track’s ire seemed reserved for Kendrick Lamar, wherein the particular line “you better drop and give ’em fifty” took over the internet. But what’s it all about?
Drake’s Leaked Diss Track Takes a Dig at Heavyweight Rappers
After the world of hip-hop witnessed one of the busiest months in recent memory, Drake changed the course of people’s attention, on social media, by dropping a leaked diss track on Saturday. Previously, a diss verse appeared from Kendrick Lamar, who called out the Canadian singer with his Like That verse, declaring that the Cold War between the two has finally become hot.
While Drake was yet to reply to Kendrick Lamar following his diss track, the rapper now appears back with a response. Perhaps, the leaked song from the One Dance singer is the reply aimed at Lamar’s Like That. Firing off shots not just at Lamar, but also at other heavyweight rappers like The Weeknd, the God’s Plan rapper didn’t resort to any sneak disses, as per GQ.
Attacking Rick Ross for jumping in when “every song that made it on the chart he got from Drizzy”, Drake alleged The Weeknd‘s right-hand-man Cash is “spending all his bread out here trickin’” with his lyrics. He further tells Metro to “shut your b*tch ass up and make some drums,” while sending a stray at Ja Morant for weighing in. But while the Canadian rapper took a dig at several renowned singers, the majority of the track seemed aimed toward Kendrick Lamar.
Drake Majorly Attacks Kendrick Lamar With His Recent Track
Throughout the video, Drake appeared attacking Kendrick Lamar’s smaller stature, while calling him a “pipsqueak” and claiming that he had to “hike down to” his standard in order to send out this reply. Further, he appeared to attack the singer for being a so-called big stepper that “wears size 7 mens”. But amid this whirlwind of lyrics attacking Lamar, the main angle that the Trust Issues singer took, was on Lamar’s business relationship.
Calling out the Compton rapper’s business partnership with his former label TDE and its founder Top Dawg, Drake alleged that Dawg scooped out a lion’s share of Lamar’s profits and made him do lame pop collabs for money. With his direct lyrics aiming at Kendrick Lamar, the Canadian singer said, “Maroon 5 need a verse you better make it witty/Then we need a verse for the Swifties/Top say ‘drop,’ you better drop and give him 50.”
Even hinting at the content of the lyrics with references to “pushups”, where Drake decided to use an actual image of Kendrick Lamar doing push-ups as the official artwork. This hilariously played off the jokes that fans have been making about Lamar being war-ready because of his Instagram workout posts. Taking a dig at the Compton rapper in every way possible, Drake went head-to-head with Lamar.
