In a big twist, Steven Yeun is saying goodbye to his Marvel Sentry gig. But this isn’t just an exit; it kicks off a cool new project. The Thunderbolts buzz started in February os 2023, but Marvel never officially spilled the beans.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, back at D23, they spilled the tea about Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus joining the superhero crew.
Thunderbolts got hit by last year’s writer and actor strikes, pushing its July 2024 plans to July 2025, with filming still up in the air. But here’s the kicker: Yeun breaks up with Thunderbolts via email for Lee Isaac Chung’s Small Love Story, beproduced by Bong Joon Ho.
He told Variety that crafting the breakup message took many email drafts to truly express his regrets. He said,
“It took a lot of drafts on email to make sure that I conveyed the sincerity of how sorry I was to have to back out.”
Known for Invincible’s voice and roles in The Walking Dead and Netflix’s Beef, Yeun also gears up for Joon Ho’s Mickey 17. This year, he’s in the awards season race with Beef and has a role in the 54-year-old film.
Joon Ho, the first South Korean filmmaker to win Best Director, is dropping the sci-fi flick on March 29, 2024. Starring Robert Pattinson, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, and more, Mickey 17 delves into identity and class clashes, revolving around a character who keeps coming back as a human clone.
Meanwhile, despite Yeun doing his thing, some Marvel fans aren’t thrilled, airing their views on social media. This unexpected twist in the actor’s journey has the entertainment industry buzzing with anticipation and curiosity.
