Taylor Sheridan’s Next Project Will Explore the Clashing Worlds: White Settlers Vs Comanche Tribe

We learned from Deadline that Taylor Sheridan and his Bosque Ranch production company had entered into a bidding war for the rights to Empire of the Summer Moon: Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanches, the Most Powerful Indian Tribe in American History, written by S.C. Gwynne.

More importantly, he will work with Jenny Wood as a producer in addition to directing and writing on this upcoming project. It is still unclear at this point whether this will be a television series or a feature film. The story recounts the events of the four-decade struggle for control of the American West between the Comanche tribe and White settlers.

Sheridan has the utmost respect for Quanah Parker. Among the items acquired by the Sicario writer was Parker’s lance, which is currently kept in a nearby museum. The author of the book shared:

“I can’t think of anyone better qualified to bring Empire of the Summer Moon to the screen than Taylor Sheridan. He has a deep and nuanced understanding of both the myth and reality of the Old West. I am thrilled that he is undertaking this project.”

In addition to writing the second season of 1923, the prequel series starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, Sheridan is currently laying the groundwork for the upcoming final season of Yellowstone.

Taylor Sheridan Has Certainly ‘Found His Niche’ With His Next Project

The consideration Taylor Sheridan gives his projects is something to behold. Two of his early films, Wind River and Hell or High Water, show his uncanny ability to use gripping storytelling to shed light on challenging subjects. For the latter, he received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

Thus, he is well-positioned to look at the intricate dynamics of the conflict between the Comanche tribe and White settlers, digging deeply into the goals and viewpoints of each side. The film will require viewers to examine their assumptions and consider this clash from a variety of angles that existed between the settlers, the Comanche tribe, and the land that they fought so hard to control.
