Dune Awakening better not be a worm in the apple. In a market where franchises are losing their charm, Dune has pulled the reverse gear. The initial media adaptation of the franchise didn’t get a good reception. Fast forward to today, the latest movies have blown the box office. The available material on the game indicates that it will feature some stunning occurrences that even Denis Villeneuve might have missed.

The latest entry in Frank Herbert’s franchise won’t follow the protagonist Paul Atreides but a random character customized by players who’ll be inscribing their own survival story. Nevertheless, they’ll encounter lead characters from the franchise during their journey. Interstingly, Arrakis will be a hot potato in this survival encounter, which may sound like music to survival lovers’ ears.

Apart from screenshots the user also shared several details to be included upon Dune Awakening‘s arrival. This includes sandstorms, PVP/PVE events for gathering spice, world events, and more.

Recently, fans across the globe outcried over the game’s inclusion of religious themes. However, it shouldn’t be something for the fans for something to be worried about. It’ll feature what is called a Butlerian jihad, a concept showcasing a war between humans and artificial intelligence.

It would be interesting to see such a concept coming to life through a game given that a Butlerian jihad is actually brewing globally. From several jobs to art types, artificial intelligence is proving to be a danger for many. Especially, in the context of artists using AI to produce art, several of them are so bad that they’ve got to have Van Gogh’s ear for music.

The Developers Sure Know Their Stuff

It is likely to include several aspects that weren't showcased in Denis Villeneuve's movies.

The game uses Unreal Engine 5 as it was showcased during the State of Unreal 2024. This explains the visually stunning visuals the makers of Dune Awakening were able to develop. It’s like a cinematic rip-off of a game. Perhaps Helldivers 2 might be getting a visual competition after all.

Although it includes several Dune-ish aspects missing from the movies, there might be Dune-ish aspects the game may miss from the books. Players may not get to ride gigantic worms initially upon Dune Awakening‘s launch. Ironically, movies did feature it.

Whatever the developers have planned out for the game, screenshots show they appear to know which side of the bread is buttered on. The company hasn’t provided a release date for the game but it is likely that Dune Awakening will arrive at some point in 2025.
