With Disney hoping to convert movies into live-action remakes, Dwayne Johnson’s upcoming movie gets a promising update. Although the release date of the movie has been confirmed, it seems that the actors have different thoughts about the remaking of the movie.

As per the reports, the release date of the live-action of the 2016 movie Moana has been confirmed to be set in 2025. Dwayne Johnson is quite excited to reprise his role in the movie, but his co-star Auliʻi Cravalho doesn’t seem to be interested in reprising her role in the upcoming movie.

Dwayne Johnson’s Moana Gets A Promising Update

Back in 2016, Auli’i Cravalho voiced the lead character of Moana in the animated movie. Starring alongside the young actress, Dwayne Johnson voiced the character of Maui and earned some pretty strong reviews for the storyline and the songs.

Disney recently announced that a live-action remake of Moana was in the works and Dwayne Johnson is set to reprise his role as Maui in the upcoming remake. The film recently got a promising update since as per reports, Moana received a release date. As per reports, the live-action remake of Moana is all set to release on 27th June 2025 across the U.S.

Although the release date has been announced, there seem to be some problems with the casting of the movie. Actress Auli’i Cravalho, who voiced the titular character, does not want to reprise her role in the upcoming live-action remake. Stating that the character should be portrayed by an actress that represents the character and story that they want to tell.

Auli’i Cravalho Will Not Reprise Her Role As Moana

In an Instagram video, Auli’i Cravalho revealed that she will not be reprising her role as Moana in the upcoming live-action remake. Stating that she will serve as an executive producer of the movie, Auli’i Cravalho stated that she was quite excited about who the next actress will be.

“Aloha Mai Kakou. As I’m sure you’ve heard by now, [a] live-action Moana is in the works and you all have been waiting very patiently for updates. So, I’ve written a few things down. When I was cast as Moana at 14, it wonderfully changed my life and started my career. In this live-action retelling, I will not be reprising the role. I believe it is absolutely vital [that] the cast accurately represents the characters and stories we want to tell.”

She further continued,

“So, as an executive producer of the film, I cannot wait to help find the next actress to portray Moana’s courageous spirit, undeniable wit, and emotional strength.”

With Dwayne Johnson in the lead role and a Pacific actress yet left to find, the live-action remake of Moana is set for a release date of 27th June 2025.
