There has been a major shake-up with upcoming title EA Sports FC 24, as they finally move into the 21st century. Hailed as the successor to FIFA, it was recently confirmed that female players will be included in the pool of players of the Ultimate Team, in what has been described as a ‘seismic’ shake-up.

This could see players like Sam Kerr up front with Erling Haaland or indeed Leah Williamson partnering up with Virgil Van Dijk in the heart of defence. This is certainly ground-breaking and would see multi-gendered teams being formed for the first time in the franchise’s history, creating some much welcomed variety in the team-building option.

But maybe unsurprisingly, some fans have not welcomed the news. With one knuckle dragger on a reddit post (who shall remain nameless) stating;

“Get ready for BackToTheKitchenFC”

On the same thread, others have come out to say they won’t be buying this title because of this reason and that it is just a simple PR stunt. It’s these type of remarks which have sadly become common place for some people when talking about females playing football. But given the increased coverage of the female leagues, their successes both domestically and internationally, this backwards thinking should be a thing of the past.

The successor to FIFA will be breaking new ground with the multi-gendered option in Ultimate Teams

With EA splitting from FIFA, they have been able to save some money and re-direct this towards several big marketing projects. Most notably is the Spanish league, ‘La Liga’, which moving forward will see it re-branded as ‘La Liga EA Sports’. Not only that but with the rapid expansion of the female leagues, with two new leagues confirmed to be joining EA Sports FC; La Liga F and the Frauen-Bundesliga.

With more information to follow about specific gameplay and modes, EA Sports did advise that they were making significant improvements to the Frostbite Engine; the new EA Sports Sapien Technology. This promises to have more realistic body animation, fabric physics and generally a much better experience for game days.

This development for EA Sports FC 24 is certainly a massive step in the right direction and a long time coming. Given how well the female game has developed in the last decade and how huge the draw is, it’s only right that female players should be included in the pool of players for the Ultimate Team.

EA Sports FC 24 is scheduled to launch in the United States and Europe on the 29th September for PS4/PS5 and Switch, but what are your thoughts on this recent announcement? Will you be picking up this title? Get in touch, leave us a comment and let us know your thoughts.
