EA Sports FC 24 made waves with the change in its branding as Electronic Arts ditched the FIFA brand after almost 30 years, notably its inclusion of HyperMotion V technology. However, the company had high hopes for EA Sports FC 24, and the game received a warm welcome from the players.
EA Sports FC 24 was launched on September 29 and was initially available for early access on September 22, but reports suggest that early sales were down by around 30% in comparison to FIFA 23. However, according to reports from Games Industry, the game has now snagged over 11 million players in the first week.
EA Sports FC 24 Hits 11 Million Players in its First Week
Questions were raised about the future of the long-running football franchise after it ditched the FIFA name, but despite that, the game has proved its popularity. According to the latest report from Games Industry, EA Sports FC 24 pulled over 11.3 million players in the first week of its official launch, one million more than FIFA 23, which hit 10.3 million players in the same time frame.

Moreover, EA Sports FC Mobile attracted 11.2 million players just 10 days after the launch. The mobile game was also downloaded by over 2.2 million players on launch day. As reported by Games Industry, talking about the game, EA Sports president Cam Weber stated:
We’re thrilled to have so many fans jumping into The World’s Game in both EA Sports FC 24 and FC Mobile in just the first few days since launch.
He further added:
In addition to welcoming back millions of our longtime players, new players in FC 24 are up nearly 20% year over year, showing the excitement of football fans everywhere to join the Club. We are building the world’s biggest football community through EA Sports FC, and we’re just getting started.
These are both big achievements for the game, and even though these figures are not similar to direct sales numbers, it is still evident that the game has maintained its popularity and is doing well commercially. EA also noted that these numbers include players who have subscribed to EA Play and may have played or just tried the game.
The twenty percent new player comment was not explained, but there are chances that this could be due to the overhaul EA Sports FC 24 brought to the Nintendo Switch, which wasn’t seen with the previous titles in the series. There are also chances that the name change of the game brought some players back, as they would have wanted to experience what’s new with the title, proving that jettisoning the FIFA brand wasn’t a setback.
What’s New in EA Sports FC 24?
Although EA Sports FC 24 seems to be like, well, FIFA, EA has made improvements in some aspects of the game. The game has over thirty leagues, more than seven hundred clubs, 19,000 players, and much more. The addition of Playstyles has also enhanced the game by giving certain players their signature skills. Some players will also get multiple playstyles.
Attacking and defending have also been improved with ‘Effort Dribble Touch’, which lets players knock the ball ahead to set up their next touch, and ‘Advanced Defending’ lets players select their actions. Several improvements have been made to passing with ‘Precision Passing’, ‘Headers On Demand’, and ‘Swerve On Demand.’ Precision passing also rewards players when they successfully aim at a target location.
Women’s team is now included in Ultimate Team, allowing players to create a team with both male and female characters. Another notable change to Ultimate Team is the ability to train and improve players’ overall rating (OVR). In previous games of the FIFA series, the overall ratings of the players would stay the same as different players sold and bought them, and gamers could train their players and increase their ratings. The design of Ultimate Team cards is also customizable in the game.
