Berserk might be one of the best seinen anime out there, but it’s not for the lighthearted. From graphic depictions of violence to grossly captured intimate scenes, Kentaro Miura made sure to put raw moments into the story.
However, the stone-cold nature of the author fired back at him once Berserk received an anime adaptation. As it turns out, the studios could not adapt many scenes due to their graphic depictions, which led to gaps in the story as well as incomplete characterization.
So here is a list of the top 5 scenes or things that Berserk fans want to see animated.
5. The Opening Scene with Female Apostle
In order to fit everything within a set number of episodes, a number of scenes were cut off from Berserk. An unknown female apostle appeared in the manga and seduced Corkus to eat him. However, her encounter with Guts was too graphic for any anime.
When Berserk meets her, they get intimate, but as the apostle resumes her killing form, Guts is seen shoving his prosthetic arm down her throat and killing her with the canon. This left a large hole in her skull.
4. The Lost Children Chapter
The Lost Children Chapter from the Conviction Arc of Berserk is definitely an important part of the plot but was never adapted by the anime. In the arc, Guts and Puck find a group of bandits holding a girl captive. After rescuing her, they learn of the frequent abduction of children by Rosine and her elves.
Guts then incinerates the cocoons of developing elves under Rosine. He uses Jill as bait to ambush the apostle and lands a fatal blow. However, he is shot by Jill’s father as soon as he is ready to end Rosine.
3. The Battle with Wyald
The fight with Wyald is considered one of the most brutal moments of Berserk. At one point, Guts shoved his sword into Wyald’s mouth and pulled it out with a swing. While the protagonist began to win initially, Wyald soon overpowered him and made him spit out blood.
But Guts soon recovers and cuts through the giant center eye of Wyald as well as its torso. In the process of defeating the monster, Guts’ body is utterly broken.
2. The Assault of Guts by Donovan
Guts’ adoptive father, Gambino, let him be assaulted in return for little money. Donovan assaulted the protagonist, who, in turn, was so traumatized that he always lashed out whenever he was touched suddenly or when someone got too close.
Donovan was not featured in the anime due to his brutal act. However, due to the absence of the evil character, Guts’ characterization was left unfinished in the anime. His fear of emotional and physical intimacy was left unexplained.
1. Griffith’s Capture by the King and Year-Long Torture
After Guts left the Band of Falcon, Griffith was distraught and defeated. As a result, he seeks out Charlotte, the daughter of the King. While still thinking of Guts’ departure, Griffith gets forcefully intimate with Charlotte. However, the King finds out his insubordination soon and arrests him.
He is whipped by the King, who berates him for defiling Charlotte. In turn, Griffith claimed that the King lusts for his own daughter. The King, rather infuriated, ordered Griffin to be tortured for a year. This part of the story is so graphic and jarring that it was never adapted by any Berserk anime.
