The success of Alaqua Cox’s Echo series is a testament to the rise of street-level heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not to say it wasn’t as popular as before, with the likes of Daredevil and Jessica Jones already making it big despite only appearing on the small screen, but this phenomenon can also mean that Marvel Studios could be shifting its focus to lesser-known figures.
Fans have shown great support and enthusiasm towards shows featuring street-level heroes, and one of the most popular names would be Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. Peter Parker already joined the Avengers in the MCU and he no longer dealt with street-level threats. With the studio redirecting its focus and Spider-Man already finished his film trilogy, it might be time to pass on the torch to other characters.

Marvel’s Echo Sparked Interest In Moving The Spotlight To Street-Level Heroes
The plan to bring more street-level heroes and villains into the MCU was prompted by the success of Marvel’s Echo starring Alaqua Cox. While the series has direct ties to Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, its soaring viewership both on Disney+ and Hulu proves that it has its own merit. Director Sydney Freeland told The Hollywood Reporter:
“You would think with Marvel that the restrictions and the parameters would be even great, but I would say I’ve had the most creative freedom on this show than any TV show that I’ve done to date. I was extremely fortunate. I felt absolutely empowered and creatively protected. I was free to put my stamp on this.”
Thanks to Marvel Spotlight’s Echo and the anticipation for Daredevil: Born Again, Marvel Studios has decided to devote more attention and budget to street-level heroes through the revival of its TV shows. As per report from THR:
“Marvel is interested in doing more with the character and is already developing new ideas as it seeks to build out its street-level heroes.”
So far, the studio has introduced five different heroes through Netflix shows: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Punisher. Another notable character that deserves a spinoff would be Elektra. Let’s not forget Kate Bishop and Moon Knight who previously starred in their own series.
The triumph of Echo definitely sparked this renewed interest from the studio to bring in more street-level heroes. Holding that thought in mind, Miles Morales is absolutely the perfect character to join this movement.
Goodbye Peter Parker, Hello Miles Morales
Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ joint project, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, emerged as a box office win, grossing over $690 million against a budget of $150 million. The animated film was lauded by fans and critics due to its stunning visuals and heartfelt storyline, but moreover, it was a breath of fresh air to see another iteration of the famed Web-Slinger fighting alongside other Spider-People.
The overwhelming love and support for Miles Morales as Spider-Man can be a possible threat to the future of Tom Holland’s character in the MCU. After cementing his place in our generation, Miles Morales is most likely to become the new face and name of Spider-Man.
Live-action movies are generally more expensive to make than animated films, and with the recent failure of MCU sequels such as The Marvels and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the studio should think twice about another live-action Spider-Man project.
