Injustice 3 is on the minds of many gamers who are anxiously awaiting any announcement related to the title. Once and awhile we all need a stress relief, times are tough and we need a break, and sometimes that break is hopping on online and mercilessly (and possibly violently) beating another person’s fighter to a pulp.

There are many forms to choose from to satiate your strategic (or button mashing) rage, with such famous titles as Street Fighter, Tekken, Mortal Kombat or my personal favourite Injustice.  Only to my very minor disappointment was the discovery that NetherRealm Studios had broke their pattern of on and off transitioning between developing the Mortal Kombat and the Injustice series. The upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 looks amazing, so you can hardly complain, but for any fans of the DC fighting Injustice games, Injustice 3 is still something to look forward to.

Recently the creative director of NetherRealm, Ed Boon, has been doing many interviews at Gamescom 2023, and promotions for the highly anticipated new Mortal Kombat 1 releasing this fall.  When asked about other fighting franchises he has managed, Boon was quite open and positive about the potential of an Injustice 3.

In fact, he has been taking many concept notes for the game for some time, going all the way back to the previous entry Injustice 2.  Naturally, he could not disclose any details on any of these concepts because it is unlikely any work has even begun on the game. There is no way to know what might be used or scrapped.  It is a pretty safe bet though that NetherRealm will give Injustice 3 some unique identifying ideas and mechanics, as is their track record with previous fighting games.

What About A Game That Pits DC vs. Marvel?

Could this concept of the two franchises battling it out be used in Injustice 3?

Another interesting tidbit of information from Ed Boon on the subject of Injustice 3 or superhero fighting games in genera,l is that he would be very interested in possibly one day making a DC vs. Marvel game.  His reasons for wanting to see these two universes’ characters collide are likely the same as any comic fans’ would be. Ed Boon said:

“Marvel vs. DC fighting game would particularly be great because it would allow himself and many other fans to finally settle many debates that have been had over the years about which character would win in a theoretical battle.”

Imagine Spider-Man vs. Batman, that argument could go on for quite awhile I think.

DC has a lot of Potential Characters for Injustice 3

Who do you want to see in a future version of Injustice 3?
Who do you want to see in a future version of Injustice 3?

Sadly, an Injustice 3 game is probably a long way away, as NetherRealm will be hard at work for the next few years keeping Mortal Kombat 1 full of brutal awesome new content to keep gamers attention. We could be waiting until 2025 or 2026 to see our favorite DC characters return or hopefully some new ones that have yet to give their due (*cough* Booster Gold *cough*).
