When Luffy started his journey to become the Pirate King in One Piece, he was alone, and he thought that ten crew members would be the perfect amount to help him achieve his dream. As the story progresses, he meets with other characters who joined the Straw Hat crew and now are sailing with him to fulfill their and Luffy’s dreams.
However, there is still one more member that Luffy needs to appoint soon before the next step of the final saga begins. Although Luffy has a lot of potentially viable characters for the roster of the tenth Straw Hat Pirate, a One Piece theory claims that this position will be filled by none other than Jewelry Bonney, the latest ally of the crew.
The theory states that Eiichiro Oda is saving her as the tenth Straw Hat Pirate, and she will play the role of apprentice in the crew. She will be trained by Luffy as his next heir, who has now earned the title of Emperor of the Sea.
Jewelry Bonney’s Connection With The Straw Hat Pirates
Bonney was first introduced in One Piece along with the rest of the members of the Worst Generation during the Sabaody Archipelago arc. While her character was certainly unique, not much focus was given to her in the narrative until she started making moves against antagonistic characters like the CP0 Agents and the World Government.
However, before she could find herself in any more danger, she met with the Straw Hat Pirates, whom she hated because of their endeavors during the Sabaody Archipelago arc. However, as she spent time with them during the Egghead Island arc, she developed a bond with them that became stronger because of the Five Elders’ attack that they faced together.
She even started respecting Luffy because of his representation of Sun God Nika during the Gear 5 transformation. Even Luffy decided to help Bonney gain justice for what Saturn did to her family. Thus, despite being rivals as members of the Worst Generation, the two pirates bonded and are now moving toward Elbaf together.
One Piece Theory Claims Bonney Might Be The Tenth Straw Hat
Almost every One Piece arc has introduced new characters who have the potential of being a member of the crew. Be it Carrot from the Zou arc or Yamato from the Wano arc, Eiichiro Oda has teased fans with characters who could be a part of the crew, but none of them have been officially confirmed in the series.
However, according to stupidcupid on OPFanpage, Bonney has the most potential to join the crew as an apprentice to Luffy. The major aspect that supports this theory is Luffy’s parallel to the former Pirate King, Gol D. Roger. Roger had Shanks as an apprentice who was almost the same age as Bonney is right now.
Initially, it would not be ideal for Luffy to take an apprentice, as he himself was not clear about his powers in terms of his Devil Fruit. But now that Luffy has unlocked Gear 5, he can very well teach Bonney how to strengthen her Devil Fruit, which is quite similar to Luffy’s. Bonney is quite similar to Luffy in a lot of ways, and her powers would also be helpful in the final One Piece war.
