Fans have been waiting a long time for any news on the Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree, but FromSoftware has remained tight-lipped so far. While fans wait for the DLC to drop, they are killing time playing the game and finding new ways to enjoy it.

One player has taken this to the next level as he has been trolling other players in PvP as he plays with Patches, leaving them annoyed and wondering what just happened. It’s one of the most clever pranks seen in PvP mode, and other players approve it.

Patches the Untethered is a Merchant, NPC, and Field Boss in Elden Ring, but he is an optional boss, and players do not need to beat him to progress further. Patches is a recurring character in FromSoftware games, and players can find him in Murkwater Cave in the game. The character is infamous for trickery, mischievousness, and robbing people of their belongings.

Elden Ring player and Reddit user Esbidee took to the game’s subreddit and shared a video of them role-playing as Patches the Untethered, messing with and trolling three other players during a PvP invasion in Liurnia. Esbidee, playing as Patches, stalks the players from a large top and aims at them using a Jar Cannon and fires, giving them damage.

After the players spot him, Esbidee teleports to another location called Liurnia of the Lakes, from where he can see the players but they cannot spot him. Esbidee again aims at the players and fires, this time knocking one of the players off of the rock and killing them. The player further explained that when they invade, they obtain 3 Phantom Bloody fingers on the belt that allow players to respawn from “somewhere inaccessible” or in a place where they can’t get out.

Despite the Silence on the DLC, the Game Is Still Going Strong

The game was released back in February 2022, and even though there is no news on the DLC, it still has a large player base. The game recorded a peak player count of 99k in January 2024, with an over 62% rise in players compared to December 2023. The game currently has a peak of over 86k players, and the last 24-hour peak was 47,556 players.

One of the main reasons behind this is the PvP, which sees players go against each other, and the winner gets Runes. Moreover, there were several rumors in the past two months that the DLC might be released in February, which could have also driven the player numbers. This does not seem to happen now, as FromSoftware’s parent company has revealed that the expansion is still in development and without a release date.

However, it is speculated that the release date for the DLC will be announced this year itself. Players also think that the announcement might be made around the game’s second anniversary, even if it is not released then, but it is pure speculation as of now.
