From mighty giants to familiar-looking NPCs, everything and everyone can be a threat in the Land of Shadow. However, players are starting to prefer a certain type of enemy compared to others.
Players Want to Fight More Enemies Like Messmer the Impaler
Elden Ring’s community can often be critical of everything that FromSoftware comes up with. The game’s expansion has introduced many unique types of enemies for players to go against, but some take higher priority over others.
In a post written by user Fancy_Leader6278 on Reddit, a simple question on those lines came up. When asked about all the things players would like to have more of, the comments discussed everything from lore sequences to gameplay mechanics.

A comment by player lexqa suggests that bosses like Messmer would be ideal additions to the expansion, mainly because the fight includes an iconic cutscene and the character himself resembles a humanoid.
This comment is thought-provoking, as most of the major boss fights in the expansion include large characters with massive hitboxes that take up a lot of the arena. However, in the case of Messmer, that’s not the case.
The Fight Against Messmer Is an Important One in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
With two snakes as his ally, Messmer the Impaler is one of the most iconic demigods in the game. Fighting him takes a lot of precision and skill, and his lore is nothing short of fascinating.
Believed to be Marika’s son, fire-wielding Messmer was tasked with carrying a cleansing crusade across the Land of Shadow. Across this realm, you will likely notice a universal fear of what he’s capable of.

The game introduces the character with an opening cinematic that portrays him as a fearsome foe who will not entertain the Tarnished’s presence. He’s one of the few characters who looks a bit more “human” compared to others and has quickly become a fan-favorite among many in the community.
In the base game, Malenia provoked similar feelings and was considered to be a deadly opponent who looked like anything but a monster. Seems like players need more such character models in the game, rather than fighting unbelievable beasts and dragons all the time.
