While Elon Musk may enjoy diving into the world of Elden Ring, not everything about the gaming community is to his liking. The former CEO of X likes to take to the platform and vent his grievances, and he has done the same regarding the Sweet Baby Inc. controversy.

Sweet Baby Inc. has been in the news for a while now, and the reputation they have gained over the past few weeks has not been the best. If anything, they have reignited the culture war between progressives and conservatives, with Elon Musk now throwing his opinion into the mix as well.

Musk May Not Have Enjoyed Elden Ring if Sweet Baby Inc. Was Involved

Matt Walsh is an American right-wing activist and host of The Matt Walsh Show podcast on The Daily Wire network. In his episode from March 13, Walsh discussed the topic of “The Radical Wokeness Of The Video Game Industry.” He opens the episode by informing people about Sweet Baby Inc. and playing a clip from Life Is Strange by Don’t Nod Entertainment to emphasize his point.

Musk retweeted this episode, explicitly stating he does not believe “woke bs” should be in video games. He believes that people do not wish to play games that lecture the player with “tedious propaganda.” He is not alone in this sentiment, as popular streamer Dr. Disrespect responded to his tweet with his support.

The topic of whether video games should carry political ideologies is a debate that has no end. While some feel it is important for games to reflect sentiments that could create a progressive society, others are of the notion that the focus is taken away from the point of video games: to have fun. No matter which side you fall on, there are pros and cons, and a lot of discussion has yet to happen.

Musk’s Sentiments are Echoed by Other Gamers

Sweet Baby Inc. found itself in the news due to its functioning. Essentially, they can be hired by gaming companies to provide writers to help flesh out the story. They are very transparent about their approach to writing, focusing on representation and marginalized groups. Many gamers find the inclusion of such ideologies in games to be dog whistles for topics they are not interested in.

One of the most notable games Sweet Baby Inc. has worked on is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Due to the massive failure of the game, the anti-woke crowd is using it as an example as to why including Sweet Baby Inc. in a game’s production cycle would fail.

The responses to Musk’s tweet vary between support for his views and others asking him not to dictate the decisions creators wish to make. While there is something to be said for hating something purely because it can be considered “woke,” it should not be that progressiveness is at the forefront of every decision made for a game.

From understanding the complexities of a multilayer narrative to the simply joy of "big gun go boom", my goal is to capture all the emotions in between and put them down in an engaging manner.
