It has been nearly two years since Elden Ring‘s release on February 25th, and gamers are still logging in each day to experience the Souls-like hell FromSoftware has created for players to enjoy. But there are some who have taken their enjoyment one step further.
Recently, a Reddit user, F***rightgames7, posted a video of themselves playing Elden Ring, but rather than using a high-end PC or current-generation consoles, they decided to try it on a Nintendo 3DS, and the response from the gaming community is nothing short of surprising.
What Is Elden Ring, and Why Is It Surprising to Be Seen on the Nintendo 3DS?
For those who may not know, Elden Ring is the most recent Souls-like release by FromSoftware. These devs are well-known for their challenging titles, as they have been creating them for many years, while perfecting the formula that is still used to this day.
Elden Ring is the culmination of the many years of experience that FromSoftware has perfected over time. The title uses many of the different features and mechanics FromSoftware has been refining over the years, such as boss battles, exploration, and weapon options.
When it comes to Souls-like titles, there are many players who feel the challenge is too hard, as these games are designed to be quite difficult. It encourages a lot of gamers to endure through the battles and difficult locations that plague the world they explore.
This makes F***riotGames7’s achievement of playing Elden Ring on a 3DS even more impressive, as the frame rate is massively reduced, meaning dodging and deflecting attacks is a lot harder. There is also the added challenge of the smaller buttons and joystick, which have always been an issue with the 3DS. The functionality requires a user to have some major skills to play a challenging game on such a small device.
To top it all off, with it being a 3DS, the screens are incredibly small, with very low resolution, meaning that the gamer will have an even harder time noticing the many hidden enemies that skulk around the open world. One might also expect a struggle against the more graphically demanding bosses.
How Did This Gamer Get Elden Ring to Run On a Nintendo 3DS in the First Place?
For obvious reasons, Elden Ring is an incredibly massive game and would never normally be available to play on a Nintendo 3DS. This is especially true since Nintendo is no longer releasing games for that console, and the device would not be able to sustain Elden Ring without a massive upgrade.
Unsurprisingly, a lot questions have been raised, on the original Reddit post to find out how F***riotGames7 managed to perform such a task. After these commenters asked how this is possible, the original poster replied saying that they used a homebrew application called Pinbox, which allows players to stream games and other forms of media from their PC to their 3DS.
However, the original poster has made commenters aware that this process isn’t so simple, as it also took them over 3 hours to finally get the system working. The only reason this player decided to stream Elden Ring to their 3DS is because they couldn’t afford a PS4 to play it on.
Understandably, there were many issues when it came to streaming Elden Ring on the 3DS, but for those who have played it, or any other Souls-like game, it is a challenge worth under-taking. The footage shows that the player is very far into the game, as they have managed to make incredible progress despite such an older generation console.
