Elden Ring is a title many players love and has received universal acclaim for innovating in a genre that tests a player’s patience, resolve, and composure. The game was also one in which much emphasis was laid on the world-building process, apart from the gameplay that had been the highlight in the other Soulsborne titles.

While the gameplay was just as polished as other titles from the studio, many other elements in the game heightened the experience for players. The game also had multiplayer elements, mechanics to call companions to help you during challenging boss battles, and more. Among other multiplayer mechanics, the game was another title in the Soulsborne series with PVP multiplayer. Now, players on the game’s subreddit were seen discussing their experiences with PVP.

One Elden Ring Post Seems to Agree on an OP Build

Since Elden Ring is a Soulsborne title, it places a lot of emphasis on various build types and weapons. One such user posted a meme on the game’s subreddit, calling out some people. The meme was supposed to troll people who use OP builds in PVP.

For those unaware of the context of this meme, the original poster wanted to troll players who dual-wield Vyke’s War Spears and use them in PVP. Per the Elden Ring community, this is a sweaty tactic used by players who utilize the weapon’s madness buildup to inflict more damage, even with phantom hits.

Also, when one Power stances dual-wielded weapons, they gain access to more moves than the weapon’s core moveset. Some players hope for a dual Vuke’s War Spear killer in the upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. It is almost certain that the upcoming DLC will add new weapons to the game, apart from other story mode content.

Some players on the Vyke Spears Elden Ring Wiki page are also seen making one specific request, which is the Madness Katana. Adding a Madness Katana in the game would make for an excellent addition to, if not nerf, but counter the Dual Vyke’s Spears, as a Katana is much faster and used for mid-range slash and thrust attacks. Also, a katana is much more mobile since the center of mass is distributed much better than spears that are top-heavy most of the time.

Elden Ring took the Dark Souls formula and applied it to an open world game but the game also offers much more than that.

Some players were also discussing that the Phantom Hits inflict a Madness effect and why Rivers of Blood was a weapon that’d inflict Bleed buildup even when dodged perfectly. However, some players also stated that while Rivers of Blood, the infamous weapon in the game, was nerfed and brought to ground level, the amount of power given to Vyke’s War Spears is even more than what it was initially.

A player also mentioned the problem with the Vyke’s War Spears at length in one of the comments on the post:

The issue with it is not so much the buildup as much as how it removes you from iframes and puts you in a full stun. You get punished for dodging correctly. Bleed and frost break all hyperarmor and remove you from a roll. But the stagger is not long enough to be that seriousFor madness and sleep, you become vulnerable to a square hit….

Since Elden Ring has a PVP mode, sweaty players aren’t surprising because many resort to using overpowered weapons to gain an edge in competitive scenarios. This is the case with almost all multiplayer-focused games, but since in Elden Ring, the PVP is only one of the avenues in the game and the game isn’t entirely focused on PVP multiplayer, changes to the meta aren’t as common.

This is precisely why some people feel that some weapons that are overpowered early in the game’s lifecycle are still overpowered. FromSoftware has been a studio that has always been user-centric and has even added new features to the game through updates.
