With 2022’s Elden Ring, Hidetaka Miyazaki once again proved why he is known as a legend in the gaming industry. In February 2023, FromSoftware announced Shadow of the Erdtree expansion for the beloved video game, creating a lot of hype about Elden Ring once again but it seems like it failed to meet the expectations.
The expansion pack was released on June 21st, 2024 and some players have already shared their opinions on Elden Ring‘s official Steam page. Judging by the reviews, it’s safe to say that some fans found the expansion quite disappointing.
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Receives Mixed Reviews On Steam
Most of the negative reviews have criticized the expansion for its technical issues. There are performance issues even in high-end PCs. The visuals, music, and new content are indeed very fascinating but one cannot enjoy these elements if they face gameplay issues.
Elden Ring‘s first expansion pack, Shadow of the Erdtree, was released on June 21st, 2024 but unfortunately, it couldn’t live up to its hype. As per Steam, the Shadow of the Erdtree update has received mixed reviews from the fans despite being FromSoftware’s biggest expansion pack.
The massive update added new weapons, equipment, weapon skills, magic, enemies, boss encounters, and plotlines. In terms of new content, Shadow of the Erdtree didn’t disappoint at all, in fact, it can be labeled as one of the best expansion packs of all time but the technical issues are ruining the gameplay experience for many players.
The Technical Issues Are Ruining Elden Ring’s Perfect Rating
Most of the negative reviews have pointed out one thing: gameplay/technical issues. FPS drops and micro-stuttering even on high-end systems have frustrated many fans. Apart from this, players have also criticized the new bosses, many claiming that it can get quite difficult to take them down.
There are positive reviews as well, focusing more on the worldbuilding. Players are also defending the expansion pack, stating that the DLC is challenging but it is also rewarding. Shadow of the Erdtree is massive when compared to the DLCs that other studios release nowadays for their video games. in the future,
FromSoftware will definitely roll out updates to fix these technical issues. As for the bosses, players shouldn’t forget that they’re playing a Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Soulslike game, obviously, it has to be difficult, since that is a part of the gaming experience.
