FromSoftware developed Elden Ring and is the studio known for creating the action-adventure subcategory of Soulslike games. The name arose from their titles, Demon’s Souls and the Dark Souls Trilogy.

Elden Ring was the studio’s love letter to the genre. Blending the steep difficulty curve with an open-world setting was an outstanding addition to the genre. It resulted in a cult classic game celebrated by the masses and critics alike.

In recent times, most major studios have announced layoffs. This is due to an economic downturn, which has also affected the video game industry. Studios like Ascendant Studios, Crystal Dynamics, Blizzard, Epic Games, Naughty Dog and Telltale Games have all laid off their employees.

On the other hand, while such ginormous studios have been offloading their employees. The studio responsible for Elden Ring’s creation, FromSoftware, is on a hiring spree. The studio is presently working on Elden Ring’s next expansion.

The title of the DLC expansion is Shadows of the Erdtree and there have been no updates on the release date from the developers. It was announced in February 2023, almost one year after Elden Ring was released. While it is unclear at the present moment, the hiring spree could be for the expansion or an entirely new unannounced project.

Fans have been eager for some insight into the development of the expansion. In all fairness, it has been almost nine months since the announcements. All that has been revealed is the title and some concept art.

After Elden Ring, the studio’s next release was Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon. Now that the game has been released, what is ahead for the studio seems pretty uncertain. There are no announcements from regarding the same. This discounts the already announced expansion for Elden Ring.

Per the company’s website, the studio is going on quite a hiring spree for various roles involving new projects. While the developer is being fairly quiet when it comes to project details, we do know some of the positions include: Game Planner, System Planner, Game Programmer, R&D, Graphics system, and Server Engineer.

It is logical to assume that the Elden Ring developers plan to build on the game’s success. The masses loved the game, and the critics were not shying away from words of appreciation either.

The title’s sales were more than 20 million in a year. With almost 12 million copies being sold in the first 21 days. The game’s international publisher, Bandai Namco, profited greatly from the franchise.

When Can We Expect an Announcement From Fromsoftware And What Will it Be?

If not Elden Ring, FromSoftware's next project could be Bloodborne-related.
If not Elden Ring, FromSoftware’s next project could be Bloodborne-related.

It makes sense to assume that the next game on FromSoftware’s to-do list should be an Elden Ring sequel, given the success of the game. But the probability of the announcement, let alone the release, happening any time soon is bleak.

The original was released in February 2022; the first significant expansion has no release date window yet. Apart from Elden Ring, the Studio’s previous action role-play Soulslike game was Bloodborne.

The PlayStation 4 exclusive is another fan favourite from the studio and has not received a next-gen remaster for the PlayStation 5. It could be that the game gets a remaster, sequel or a full-fledged remake of Bloodborne instead of an Elden Ring sequel.

The ball is also in Sony’s court because it owns the Bloodborne IP and therefore has the final say in any Bloodborne-related matters. FromSoftware could also go down the Dark Souls path when expanding franchises. Perhaps a Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice sequel?

The possibilities are numbered, but still considerable. The studio is known for putting its heart and soul into every game it develops. It is for this reason that fans of any series produced by the Elden Ring makers always desperately wait for further updates.

Whether those updates are regarding expansions, franchises, or new projects, FromSoftware never disappoints. It will be interesting to see what the studio has in store for fans.
