Emily Blunt received the biggest accomplishment of her career recently as her performance in Oppenheimer was nominated for an Academy Award. Christopher Nolan extracted a vulnerable yet commanding performance out of her, and the actress provided the much-needed emotional support for Cillian Murphy’s J. Robert Oppenheimer in the film.
Nolan is often seen as a serious director who makes thought-provoking and groundbreaking cinema. However, the cast of Oppenheimer has talked about his fun side in various interviews. In a recent interview, Blunt revealed a hilarious back-and-forth banter between her and the director on the sets of the film.
Emily Blunt Got Back At Christopher Nolan After He Made Fun of Her Hair
Christopher Nolan‘s Oppenheimer was a huge undertaking for the director, who is known for large-scale and big-budget filmmaking. While the ambition and narrative scope were huge, Oppenheimer played like a suspense drama, harkening back to his days when he made films like Memento and Insomnia.
While the subject of the film (the race to develop atomic weapons) is intense, the cast found ways to have levity and fun on sets whenever they could. This was provoked by Nolan himself as Emily Blunt, who plays Kitty in the film, told recently how he made fun of her hair being blown by the wind in one pivotal scene in the film.
In an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the actress recalled a funny anecdote where she and Nolan went back and forth, making fun of each other’s hair. Nolan started the joke when she called her a ‘High Winds’ actress in one of the scenes, and Blunt got back at the director after she saw his hair being blown by the AC unit. She said,
“I was doing the scene where I am hanging sheets, you got the IMAX out. It was a very windy day, so there was a lot of hair acting going on. He comes in the next day after watching the dailies, and he goes, ‘Had a look at that scene and I thought Wow, Emily Blunt, high winds actress. And I was like, ‘Is that a compliment?’
And later on, we were doing the court hearing scene and he was standing in front of the AC unit, and his hair was like that… I was waiting to catch his eye for the longest time and eventually, I caught his eye and I went ‘High winds directing’ and he went Oh very good yeah very good.”
The film has won 7 Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actor. Although Blunt did not end up winning, it was great that her performance was recognized by the Academy. Fans can watch Blunt in Oppenheimer on Peacock.
Emily Blunt’s Kids Are Obsessed With Ryan Gosling After Watching Barbie
Ryan Gosling’s performance as Ken was the highlight of 2023’s Barbie. He was nominated for an Oscar for his performance, and many people were in awe of Gosling in that role. It seems Emily Blunt‘s children were also big fans of Ken and are now obsessed with the actor after watching the film.
In an interview with Today, Blunt stated that her kids want to know everything about Gosling and have become the favorite celebrity friend of their mom. They even ask her about his hair and what it looks like normally. She said,
“They’re so happy. They have never had any interest in anyone I’ve worked with ever. They know a lot of people I’ve worked with. But Ryan is — Ryan’s it for them. They were, like, ‘What does he look like when he has normal hair?’ And so I had to be, like, ‘This is what he normally looks like.’ It’s so funny.”
Blunt and Gosling are currently gearing up for their new action comedy film, The Fall Guy. The film, directed by David Leitch, recently premiered at SXSW and got great reviews. The film will hit theaters on May 3, 2024.
