Nudity in films can be a huge deal breaker for many celebrities, and Emma Stone once admitted she feels uncomfortable doing scenes that require stripping clothes. The Cruella actress has firmly held on to this choice since she started her career in acting, but it was also out of respect for her parents.

Emma Stone Promised Never To Strip Bare On Camera

Like many other celebrities, Emma Stone has dealt with body insecurities that greatly affected her mental health. She said that reading people’s comments on her physique was draining and even bothersome. She told USA Today:

That has been kind of bothering me lately. I’ve shamed myself for it. We shame each other online. We’re always too skinny or too fat or too tall or too short. They’re just confirming this feeling I have about myself. I’m trying to figure my body out. It bothers me because I care so much about young girls. We’re shaming each other, and we’re shaming ourselves, and it sucks.”

In relation to body image, the actress revealed that she had reservations about doing nude scenes on the big screen. Stone is pretty close to her parents despite their doubts about her pursuing acting as a profession.

My parents always made me feel as though I could do anything – not in a cheerleading, ‘You’re the greatest!’ kind of way; it was more, ‘You’re going to have to work hard, but we’ll support you however we can’. Just to have that kind of backing was incredible.”

This is also the reason why she has qualms about stripping naked on camera (via Contact Music):

My dad would kill me if I posed naked. He wouldn’t speak to me again and I really love my dad, so that’s always something that makes me a little nervous.”

Despite her pinky promise not to perform nude scenes, Stone later appeared naked in the Oscar-nominated period film The Favourite. The movie also featured Rachel Weisz and Olivia Colman, with Stone portraying a servant who would give up anything to climb the societal ladder. The 34-year-old actress admitted the role did not require her to get exposed, but she insisted on peeling her clothes off. For Stone, it would make more sense, and it is absolutely a personal choice.
