Emma Waston, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint spent over a decade filming together. Over the ten years they spent together, they also spent a lot of birthdays together. But for Watson, her worst day on set coincided with her birthday during the filming of the last movie.

During the DVD Commentary track (via The Digital Fix), the director David Yates recalled how the three actors had to film the later part of Gringott’s escape scene. It was the one where the Golden Trio had to jump into a freezing lake after escaping on a Dragon.

The lake was artificially created but was not heated at all, and hence the three ended up spending the majority of the time freezing.

“We brought Dan, Rupert, and Emma down to the set and we soaked them. That was the day they almost got hypothermia, and fortunately survived. It was also Emma’s birthday, of course.”

In an interview with JoBlo, Watson recalled it was so cold that at one point her co-star Grint thought his heart had stopped beating.

The three main stars of the Harry Potter franchise are no less than a family. So during the filming of the extremely daunting scene, despite being cold Emma Watson continued to look after her co-stars, Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint.

Praising Watson for her kindness, Yates stated in the DVD Commentary,

“It was tough for them… What I love about Emma is I said: ‘Are you guys alright? Emma, are you OK?’ And she looked at me, and said: ‘Don’t worry about me, look at these guys. They’re dying out here’. She insisted they get warm first. She was being very maternal.”

Even though the Little Women star absolutely hated being cold, she chose to look after her co-stars, proving just how wonderful and humble the actress really is.
