Depicting the aftermath of the Great War of 2077, Fallout perfectly captures the role-playing video game’s essence and does its best to narrate a good chunk of the story in eight episodes. On Rotten Tomatoes, the series has a high score of 93% with the critical consensus reading,

“An adaptation that feels like a true extension of the games, Fallout is a post-apocalyptic blast for newcomers and longtime fans alike.”

The audience score is just a little lower, still shining bright at 88%. It goes without saying that the show was met with a warm welcome. And now, Scott Derrickson’s intense praise for the series has just elevated the show’s reputation.

Voicing his opinion on X, Derrickson complimented the live-action adaptation on everything including its consistency, comedic tone, romance, narrative, and much more. The Doctor Strange director also praised the series for “enduring human goodness.”

Derrickson is responsible for some of Hollywood’s most unforgettable films, including The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Sinister 2, Hellraiser: Inferno, and of course, Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Doctor Strange. Clearly, his opinion matters when it comes to the entertainment industry!

While Derrickson and many others love the series, there are still a few who are not impressed in the slightest. Well, executive producer Jonathan Nolan once had the perfect reply for the ones who are not pleased with the show.

Before the release of the trailer, Nolan made it clear in a press conference (via MeriStation) that he was not trying to please every single fan of the video game out there since he knew that it was absolutely impossible.

“I don’t think you really can set out to please the fans of anything or please anyone other than yourself. I think you have to come into this trying to make the show that you want to make and trusting that, as fans of the game, we would find the pieces that were essential to us and the games to try to do the best version of those that we can…

…I think it’s kind of a fool’s errand to try to figure out how to make people happy. And that way you’re gonna make yourself happy and I’ve made myself very happy with the show.”

Needless to say, Nolan knew what his priorities were and he managed to do what he had set out to do.

Fallout Season 1 is available to stream on Prime Video.
