The first 2 movies of the franchise revolved around the plot that a human accidentally gets transported into a virtual reality world known as ‘The Grid‘ where they try to escape that reality. Although none of the movies were a massive success at the box office per se, the visual effects of the movies have continued to captivate fans from all around the world.

Justin Springer talked about having the perfect script for Tron: Ares

Tron: Legacy came back in 2010 so naturally fans and the cast of the movie were getting impatient with the studios. Many cast members who were supposed to be a part of 3rd movie of franchise like Bruce Boxleitner also left when the sequel was indefinitely postponed back in 2015. So, the co-producer of the upcoming Tron: Ares movie, Justin Springer once opened up about the future of the franchise and filming of the movie back in 2019 and revealed the importance of having the ‘perfect script’ for the movie. He said,

“Look, I will never stop being interested in making a TRON movie. I love the opportunity to do it. It’s a title that never really goes away internally. There’s always people around the company who like it a whole lot. And so, we’ll see what happens. It would be great to get the opportunity to do it again. It’s interesting – what I will say is that I think it continues to be relevant both in its ideas and also just the visual iconography of it. I think people are still are interested in it and it still feels contemporary to me. So it’s just about finding the right time, right script, and the right people at the studio saying “yes.” You know, just the usual.”

Although the first 2 movies of the franchise were largely set in the digital virtual world, Tron: Ares will be set in both the human and the digital world. Jared Leto has confirmed that he will be playing the role of Ares, a manifestation of a digital program while there have been no updates as of yet about the role that Evan Peters will play in the movie.
