When it comes to the world of anime, Attack on Titan and Demon Slayer are undoubtedly some of the top names that come to mind in terms of the best manga-based animated adaptations.
However, even they failed to appease the fans as much as one other manga-based project did, which is still winning the hearts of worldwide audiences.
This project is none other than one of the biggest fan-favorite manga, anime, and even live-action adaptations of all time, One Piece.
As it turned out, at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards that were held in 2023, Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece managed to surpass even the best-est of the best-animated projects to win the Best Continuing Series accolade!
One Piece surpassed even the most popular anime to win one major award
Everyone knew Eiichiro Oda‘s manga One Piece was one of the best mangas of all time, which even went on to get adapted into some of the most immersive fan-favorite projects in both the anime and the live-action field.
But some still doubted its chances to win against the heftiest of competitors like Attack on Titan, and Demon Slayer when it came to a major award ceremony like Crunchyroll’s 7th Anime Awards held in March last year, 2023. And yet, it did.
In the Best Continuing Series category, which notably chooses those series that have enough power to make a comeback on the screens with even more action than ever before but only without compromising on the quality, a total of six series were nominated.
These were Attack on Titan Final Season Part 2, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Stone Ocean, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District Arc, One Piece, Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun, and Kaguya-sama: Love Is War.
Yet, out of all these massively ranked series, it was Oda’s One Piece by Toei Animation that managed to leave everyone else behind to bag the accolade for the Best Continuing Series at Crunchyroll’s 7th Anime Awards, 2023.
Not only did it bring home yet another award to its already star-studded record, but it also set the bar even incredibly higher for all the other animes to surpass; even the most beloved fan-favorite series of all time.

While One Piece bagged one, Attack on Titan scored most of the other awards
Although Attack on Titan may have failed to beat One Piece in the race to win the award for the Best Continuing Series at Crunchyroll’s 7th Anime Awards, 2023 — which is notably one of the most major awards — it managed to bag quite a few others instead.
This includes accolades in other categories, like the Best Opening Sequence and the Best Anime Song of 2022 for The Rumbling; the Best Score Overall and the Best Drama for its Final Season Part 2; the Best VA Performance: Japanese for Yuki Kaji, Eren Yeager in Final Season Part 2; and the Best Main Character for Eren Jaeger.
Then there was Demon Slayer, which scored awards in the Best Action, Best Fantasy, and Best Animation categories for Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District Arc; and the Best Character Design category for Akira Matsushima for Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District Arc.
All in all, even though Attack on Titan and Demon Slayer tried their best, they couldn’t outpower fans’ choice of One Piece in winning the Best Continuing Series award at Crunchyroll’s 7th Anime Awards, 2023!
