Despite earning more than $450,000 per episode during the final seasons of Cheers, the actor 75-year-old actor ultimately decided to stop playing the role because he had grown weary of it. However, he was not financially harmed by this choice. He still makes $5 million annually from the TV show!

This suggests that the seasoned actor could rest easy knowing that his 1980s sitcom would continue to pay him up to $5 million annually even if he decides to retire.

Cheers‘ Contribution To Ted Danson’s Career 

Ted Danson still recognizes the importance of Cheers in helping to launch his career, even decades later.

NBC’s sitcom debuted in 1982 and starred Danson as Sam Malone, a former baseball player, alcoholic, and bartender/owner. The actor has previously expressed his gratitude for Cheers as the show that started his career during an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

Despite the show having already ended, he also acknowledged that those jokes still make him laugh, given that the comedy is so endearing.

“Everything I do is because of the popularity of that show. It still makes me laugh when I watch sometimes. It’s funny, and it’s great to see my friends, and they make me laugh.”

It is not surprising that Danson continues to find the sitcom’s episodes amusing given its propensity for witty humor that many consider to be ahead of its time. Cheers received praise from critics from the beginning to the end of its run, making it one of the most-watched television series in history.
