The Seinen genre manga has put everyone on the edge of their seats. Guts’ journey became more perilous as the story progressed. Berserk has otherworldly characters, and when asked whether there are any references, Kentarou Miura named a famous film series that is over two decades old. Henry Cavill also acted in one of the movies. The film series that Miura named was Hellraiser, which was first released in 1987.

Kentarou Miura’s Berserk has become a generational series. The manga series has become one of the most-sold manga of all time. The main protagonist of the series, Guts, had to go through a lot of suffering, yet he stands still and fearless in front of evil. Berserk belongs to the Seinen genre and accordingly has dark elements which are not for everyone. During an interview, the mangaka was asked whether he took inspiration from somewhere for his magnum opus.

Kentarou Miura answered, “There are many things. Movies like “Hellraisers” and “The Name of the Rose”. I’ve liked Escher for a very long time. Well, I think Berserk readers would already know this kind of thing from “behind the scene” features… It’s also inspired by Grimms’ Fairy Tales and so on.” Hellraisers follow an underworld theme, while The Name of the Rose follows a crime thriller genre. It is fair to say Berserk is a combination of both.

It can be said that Femto was inspired by the head of the Cenobites, Pinhead, while the Cenobites were the Birds of Hermes. Guts were Kentarou Miura’s creation to tackle all the evil of God Hand. If only Henry Cavill had an important role in the Hellraisers franchise, Miura sensei might have been inspired to add a character similar to him in his magnum opus.

Fate Has Always Been Cruel To Guts

Guts had one of the worst life. His friend, whom he tried to save, joined hands with the evil side. After Griffith transforms into Femto, he forces his minions to cut off one of Guts’ limbs and makes him watch as he r*ped his girlfriend. Since then, life has only been unfair to him. Berserk is far from over. Kentarou Miura wrote volume 41 of his magnum opus.

Fans had lost all hope after his untimely death, but Kouji Mori announced that he was going to continue the popular manga series. Kouji Mori was Miura sensei’s friend and has published volume 42 of Berserk. Even though the pace and styling may be changed due to there being two mangaka, the emotion behind it remains the same.
